Identifying prognostic targets in metastatic prostate cancer beyond AR

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Genome‐wide functional screens combined with a large gene expression database and clinical outcomes can identify new therapeutic vulnerabilities in prostate cancer. Eight potentially druggable targets demonstrated strong dependency in cell lines, were associated with worse prognosis clinically, and showed evidence of protein expression in prostate ...

PERFIL DE SENSIBILIDAD DE HEP-G2 COMO MODELO PARA EVALUACIÓN DE ACTIVIDAD CITOTÓXICA DE XENOBIÓTICOS BIOACTIVADOS VIA CYP450 SENSITIVILITY PROFILE HEP-G2 AS A MODEL OF CYTOTOXIC ACTIVITY DETERMINATION OF BIOACTIVATED XENOBIOTICS VIA CYP450

open access: yesVitae, 2009
Para establecer la acción anticancerígena se han propuesto numerosas metodologías, principalmente enfocadas en la valoración de la citotoxicidad in vitro sobre líneas celulares neoplásicas derivadas de diferentes tipos de cáncer humano; sin embargo, gran

How are ‘atypical’ sulfite dehydrogenases linked to cell metabolism? – Interactions between the SorT sulfite deydrogenase and small redox proteins

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2011
Sulfite dehydrogenases are enzymes that catalyze the oxidation of the toxic and mutagenic compound sulfite to sulfate, thereby protecting cells from adverse effects associated with sulfite exposure.

Earthing effects on mitochondrial function: ATP production and ROS generation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In contrast to sham and naive controls, grounded mitochondria not only exhibit significantly enhanced energy production but also demonstrate a remarkable reduction in membrane potential and oxidative stress. This suggests a profound improvement in mitochondrial health, presenting a promising avenue for therapeutic interventions.

An efficient strategy for producing RNA‐free Nucleocapsid protein of SARS‐CoV‐2 for biochemical and structural investigations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cleavable N‐terminal Thioredoxin fusion enabled soluble expression and purification of otherwise insoluble SARS‐CoV‐2 Nucleocapsid (N) protein. A four‐step purification strategy yielded highly homogeneous, RNA‐free N protein. Binding assays showed high RNA affinity (Kd ~ 28 nm). The study will facilitate high‐resolution structural studies of N protein,

Phylogenetic and functional analysis of cyanobacterial Cytochrome c6-like proteins

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2023
All known photosynthetic cyanobacteria carry a cytochrome c6 protein that acts transferring electrons from cytochrome b6f complex to photosystem I, in photosynthesis, or cytochrome c oxidase, in respiration.

Interaction of class III cellobiose dehydrogenase with lytic polysaccharide monooxygenase

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The activity of lytic polysaccharide monooxygenase (LPMO) is supported by its auxiliary enzyme cellobiose dehydrogenase (CDH). The catalytic activity of both enzymes is coupled by electron transfer and a cyclic cascade generating substrates for both enzymes – hydrogen peroxide for LPMO and oxidized and non‐oxidized cellobiose and cello‐oligosaccharide ...

Co‐overexpression of the caloric restriction‐induced mitochondrial factors PGC‐1α and MIPEP upregulates Phospho1 expression in adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Caloric restriction that extends lifespan induces the expression of PGC‐1α and MIPEP in white adipose tissue. In this study, co‐overexpression of Pgc‐1α and Mipep upregulated the gene expression of PHOSPHO1. These findings provide new insights into mitochondria‐related mechanisms underlying the effects of caloric restriction in adipocytes.

Cytochrome c as a Potentially Clinical Useful Marker of Mitochondrial and Cellular Damage

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2016
Mitochondria are evolutionary endosymbionts derived from bacteria. Thus, they bear molecules, such as mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) that contains CpG DNA repeats and N-formyl peptides (FPs), found in bacteria. Upon cell necrosis or apoptosis, these molecules
