Absence of mitochondrial CX9C-CX10C protein Cox12 generates oxidative and nitrosative stress in Saccharomyces cerevisiae: Implication on cellular redox homeostasis

open access: yesAdvances in Redox Research
Mitochondrial intermembrane space (IMS) harbors a series of small, evolutionarily conserved redox-active cysteine-rich proteins. These proteins are essential for the functioning of cytochrome c oxidase, but their role in maintaining cellular redox ...

Integrating Metabolic Modulation and Nanomedicine for Cancer Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Metabolic rewiring in cancer is mapped across glucose, amino acid, lipid, nucleotide, and mitochondrial pathways, with emphasis on immune regulation. The review integrates mechanisms linking these pathways to tumor progression and therapy resistance, and profiles nanomaterial platforms that both deliver therapeutics and actively reprogram ...

Biomedical Applications of Nanozymes: An Enzymology Perspective

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
With a lens of enzymology, this review compares nanozymes with enzymes using the Michaelis‐Menten model and differences in KM and kcat along with catalysis in complex biological environment. The implications of these differences in biomedical applications of nanozymes are then described with a statistical analysis of the trend of therapeutic use of ...

Engineering Dimensional Configuration of Single‐Atom S‐Cu‐S Sites as Reversible Electron Station for Enhanced Peroxidase‐Mimicking

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
L‐cysteine triggers auto‐assembly of POD‐like 3D biomimetic S‐Cu‐S single‐atom nanozymes on MoS2 (MoCC). MoCC shows 16.3‐fold higher catalytic velocity and 17.9‐fold greater affinity than HRP, enabling efficient •OH generation via enhanced electron inversion and transfer.

Breaking the Linear Scaling Relations for the Oxygen Reduction Reaction with a Dual‐Atom Catalyst Composed of a MnFe‐Porphyrrole Aerogel

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A bioinspired MnFe porphyrrole aerogel catalyst is synthesized using a covalent 3D framework with adjacent metal centers. The bimetallic structure enhances ORR activity through Mn─Fe synergy and high active site density. Fuel cell tests show over a 30% increase in peak power density, with DFT calculations confirming metal–metal charge transfer as the ...

A Single‐Molecule Pleuripotent Scaffold for Combinational Therapy of Alzheimer's Disease via Intranasal Administration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Herein, guanidinium‐modified calix[5]arene (GC5AY) is developed featuring small size, positive charge, and desirable amphiphilicity, that can efficiently traverse the nasal mucosal barrier for brain drug delivery. Additionally, possessing inherent therapeutic functions, GC5AY can thus serve as a single‐molecule pleuripotent scaffold for multi‐target ...

An Engineered Probiotic Consortium Based on Quorum‐Sensing for Colorectal Cancer Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work develops an engineered probiotic consortium sensing pH, hypoxia, and lactate in the tumor microenvironment. It releases a lactate‐depleting enzyme (LdhA) and a PD‐L1 nanobody. In humanized mouse models (MC38 and HT‐29 tumors), it achieves durable oscillations, suppresses tumors, activates CD8+, CD4+, IFN‐γ+ T cells, and reduces Foxp3 ...
