Antioxidant, Antiinflammatory and Antiapoptotic Effects of Lycopene in Rats With Vancomycin‐Induced Nephrotoxicity

open access: yesBasic &Clinical Pharmacology &Toxicology, Volume 137, Issue 2, August 2025.
Vancomycin caused nephrotoxicity in rats. Lycopene treatment showed ameliorative efficacy on vancomycin‐induced nephrotoxicity. This efficacy of lycopene was dose dependent. ABSTRACT Background The most important side effect of vancomycin (Vanco) is nephrotoxicity (NPT).

Metabolic Redox Coupling Controls Methane Production in Permafrost‐Affected Peatlands Through Organic Matter Quality‐Dependent Energy Allocation

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 31, Issue 8, August 2025.
Scientists studied how microorganisms in permafrost‐affected peatland ecosystems process organic matter to predict greenhouse gas emissions. Using advanced molecular techniques, they discovered that the chemical quality of organic compounds determines whether microbes produce more or less methane and other greenhouse gases. This research provides a new

Non‐coding RNAs in plant stress responses: molecular insights and agricultural applications

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 23, Issue 8, Page 3195-3233, August 2025.
Summary Non‐coding RNAs (ncRNAs) have emerged as crucial regulators in plant responses to environmental stress, orchestrating complex networks that finetune gene expression under both abiotic and biotic challenges. To elucidate this intricate ncRNA crosstalk, this review comprehensively summarizes recent advances in understanding the mechanisms of key ...

Oilseed‐based metabolic engineering of astaxanthin and related ketocarotenoids using a plant‐derived pathway: Lab‐to‐field‐to‐application

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 23, Issue 8, Page 3451-3464, August 2025.
Summary Ketocarotenoids, including astaxanthin, are red lipophilic pigments derived from the oxygenation of β‐carotene ionone rings. These carotenoids have exceptional antioxidant capacity and high commercial value as natural pigments, especially for aquaculture feedstocks to confer red flesh colour to salmon and shrimp.

PIF4‐dependent 2‐hydroxymelatonin and 3‐hydroxymelatonin biosynthesis is involved in skotomorphogenic seedling growth in Arabidopsis thaliana

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, Volume 123, Issue 3, August 2025.
SUMMARY Plants enzymatically synthesize melatonin and its hydroxylated forms, such as 2‐hydroxymelatonin (2‐OHM) and 3‐hydroxymelatonin (3‐OHM). Interestingly, 2‐OHM and 3‐OHM are present in plants at higher concentrations than melatonin and are induced at night, which is consistent with the nocturnal induction of melatonin in animals.
