Calibrating models in economic evaluation: a comparison of alternative measures of goodness of fit, parameter search strategies and convergence criteria.

open access: yes, 2011
BACKGROUND: The importance of assessing the accuracy of health economic decision models is widely recognized. Many applied decision models (implicitly) assume that the process of identifying relevant values for a model's input parameters is sufficient to

Public health approach to prevent cervical cancer in HIV-infected women in Kenya : issues to consider in the design of prevention programs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Women living with HIV in Africa are at increased risk to be co-infected with Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), persistent high risk (HR) HPV infection and bacterial vaginosis (BV), which compounds HPV persistence, thereby increasing the risk for cervical ...

Changes induced in mouse lipid metabolism by simultaneous impact of antisense oligonucleotide derivatives to apoB, PCSK9, and apoCIII mRNAs

open access: yesВавиловский журнал генетики и селекции, 2020
Development of new drugs able to decrease the level of “bad” cholesterol, in particular, based on antisense oligonucleotide derivatives (ASOs), remains relevant for the patients with familial hypercholesterolemia and/or intolerant to statins. The goal of

Dynamics of genotype-specific HPV clearance and reinfection in rural Ghana may compromise HPV screening approaches [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Persistent Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection is a prerequisite for cervical cancer development. Few studies investigated clearance of high-risk HPV in low-and-middle-income countries.

THE CYTOLOGY OF RICKETTSIAE [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Medicine, 1949
Internal structures of rickettsiae seen with phase contrast microscopy and in the electron microscope contain desoxyribonucleic acid and are therefore nuclear structures similar to those found in bacteria. They are minute spherical bodies, either single as in spherical rickettsiae or varying in number from 2 to 4 in rod-shaped forms.

Direction and modality of transcription changes caused by TAD boundary disruption in Slc29a3/Unc5b locus depends on tissue-specific epigenetic context

open access: yesEpigenetics & Chromatin
Background Topologically associating domains (TADs) are believed to play a role in the regulation of gene expression by constraining or guiding interactions between the regulatory elements.

Inhibition of CDK9 enhances AML cell death induced by combined venetoclax and azacitidine

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The CDK9 inhibitor AZD4573 downregulates c‐MYC and MCL‐1 to induce death of cytarabine (AraC)‐resistant AML cells. This enhances VEN + AZA‐induced cell death significantly more than any combination of two of the three drugs in AraC‐resistant AML cells.

Identification of nuclear genes controlling chlorophyll synthesis in barley by RNA-seq

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology, 2016
Background Albinism in plants is characterized by lack of chlorophyll and results in photosynthesis impairment, abnormal plant development and premature death.

Tumor and germline testing with next generation sequencing in epithelial ovarian cancer: a prospective paired comparison using an 18‐gene panel

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Genetic testing in epithelial ovarian cancer includes both germline and tumor‐testing. This approach often duplicates resources. The current prospective study assessed the feasibility of tumor‐first multigene testing by comparing tumor tissue with germline testing of peripheral blood using an 18‐gene NGS panel in 106 patients.

Sensitivity of cytology in liver tumor biopsy and its significance in the prompt clinical diagnosis of non‐hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesCancer Medicine, 2023
Background Cytology is a fast and simple modality for identifying malignancies and tumor histology. In this study, we analyzed the sensitivity of cytology for liver tumor biopsy and evaluated its potential for prompt clinical diagnosis.
