Immunocytochemical Phenotyping of Disseminated Tumor Cells in Bone Marrow by uPA Receptor and CK18: Investigation of Sensitivity and Specificity of an Immunogold/Alkaline Phosphatase Double Staining Protocol [PDF]
Phenotyping of cytokeratin (CK) 18-positive cells in bone marrow is gaining increasing importance for future prognostic screening of carcinoma patients. Urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor (uPA-R) is one example of a potential aggressive marker

Preanalytic specimen triage: Smears, cell blocks, cytospin preparations, transport media, and cytobanking [PDF]
With increasing requests for the evaluation of prognostic and predictive molecular biomarkers, great attention must be paid to the preanalytical issues regarding sample quality and DNA/RNA yield from all different types of cytological preparations. The objectives of this review were: 1) to provide an update regarding the importance of specimen triage ...

CXCR2 deficient mice display macrophage-dependent exaggerated acute inflammatory responses [PDF]
CXCR2 is an essential regulator of neutrophil recruitment to inflamed and damaged sites and plays prominent roles in inflammatory pathologies and cancer. It has therefore been highlighted as an important therapeutic target.

Rapid weight gain: An unusual presentation of leukemia
Neurological manifestations of leukemia can be due to direct effects of the malignancy or due to the indirect effects of infection or therapy. An 11-year-old boy presented with recent-onset weight gain with papilledema and a history of tuberculosis ...

CSPG4 is identified as a high‐value, stemness‐associated target in HPV‐negative HNSCC. By implementing rational biophysical engineering, a humanized and charge‐optimized CAR is developed to overcome tonic signaling‐induced exhaustion. This strategy induces a profound transcriptomic shift toward a rejuvenated, stem‐like memory state, significantly ...

Regulation of neutrophil senescence by microRNAs [PDF]
Neutrophils are rapidly recruited to sites of tissue injury or infection, where they protect against invading pathogens. Neutrophil functions are limited by a process of neutrophil senescence, which renders the cells unable to respond to chemoattractants,

Isolated CNS Blast Crises in Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia Presenting as Hypertrophic Pachymeningitis and Bilateral Optic Neuritis: A Case Report [PDF]
Extramedullary blast crises of Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia (CML) involving CNS is rare and usually accompanies systemic relapse. Isolated CNS blast relapse is an extremely uncommon event.

We identified the endothelial RAP2A as a regulator of inflammatory endothelial activation in experimental lung fibrosis and suggest that targeting RAP2A‐mediated signaling may represent a potential strategy to modulate endothelial–immune crosstalk during fibrotic lung injury.

ABSTRACT Background Pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is characterized by its poor prognosis. Cytology is essential for diagnostic confirmation and ancillary studies. The endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) set a precedent, facilitating cytological sampling through fine‐needle aspiration (FNA), with a sensitivity of 93% and a specificity of 95%.
