Activation of Cytotoxic Function in T Lymphocytes

The Journal of Immunology, 1976
Abstract The requirements for activation of cytotoxic function in mouse T lymphocytes were investigated. Initial generation of cytotoxicity in normal lymphocytes was equal in magnitude with either Con A or specific alloantigen, and in either case required DNA synthesis.

Killing mechanisms of cytotoxic lymphocytes

Current Opinion in Hematology, 1997
Killer lymphocytes are primary immune effectors of virus, certain bacteria, and tumor immunity and play a role in autoimmunity and transplant rejection. This article reviews progress in deciphering the mechanisms by which they kill target cells through induction of apoptosis by either the secretory, perforin/granzyme-based pathway or the nonsecretory ...

CD4 cytotoxic T lymphocyte differentiation

Biochimie, 1988
In vitro allostimulated CD4+ human lymphocytes were cloned by micromanipulation and expanded for a short time in IL-2 conditioned medium. In the present study we observed that proliferative noncytotoxic cloned cells were able to acquire the specific cytolytic activity under some modification of the cloned cells restimulation cycle. We demonstrated that

THE MECHANISM OF LYMPHOCYTE‐MEDIATED CYTOTOXICITY

Biological Reviews, 1981
Summary1. Three classes of cytotoxic lymphocyte are discussed: thymus‐derived T cells, antibody‐dependent K cells and NK (natural killer) cells. Each of these cytotoxic lymphocytes has receptors allowing the formation of adhesions (contact) with a target cell (the cell to be killed).

Radiosensitivity of Murine T-Lymphocyte Cytotoxicity

Radiation Research, 1984
A biphasic curve was observed when surviving allogeneic lytic activity was plotted as a function of irradiation delivered before sensitization. Flow cytometry analysis demonstrated that the number of cells was reduced in response to increasing dose and that subset precursors Lyt 1+2+ were proportionally more radiosensitive than the other subsets ...

Apoptosis and Cytotoxic T Lymphocytes

1993
Apoptosis is a mode of cell death that occurs under normal physiological conditions. In vivo, it is most often found during normal tissue turnover, embryogenesis, metamorphosis, and endocrine-dependent tissue atrophy (Kerr et al., 1972; Wyllie et al., 1980). The inference has been made that cell death in these instances is “programmed,” meaning that it
