Rare sugars: recent advances and their potential role in sustainable crop protection [PDF]
Rare sugars are monosaccharides with a limited availability in the nature and almost unknown biological functions. The use of industrial enzymatic and microbial processes greatly reduced their production costs, making research on these molecules more ...

Reaction Engineering and Comparison of Electroenzymatic and Enzymatic ATP Regeneration Systems
An electrochemically coupled ATP regeneration by pyruvate oxidase and acetate kinase for the phosphorylation of mevalonate was established and expanded by a polyphosphate kinase. The reaction was characterized and compared with other ATP regenerating systems in terms of the phosphate donor properties and biocatalytic metrics.

Low-calorie sweetener d-psicose promotes hydrogen peroxide-mediated apoptosis in c2c12 myogenic cells favoring skeletal muscle cell injury [PDF]
Diet and exercise are the most effective approaches used to induce weight loss. D-psicose is a low-calorie sweetener that has been shown to reduce weight in obese individuals. However, the effect of D-psicose on muscle cells under oxidative stress, which

Expanding the enzyme repertoire for sugar nucleotide epimerization : the CDP-tyvelose 2-epimerase from Thermodesulfatator atlanticus for glucose/mannose interconversion [PDF]
Epimerization of sugar nucleotides is central to the structural diversification of monosaccharide building blocks for cellular biosynthesis. Epimerase applicability to carbohydrate synthesis can be limited, however, by the high degree of substrate ...

Different immobilization methods were evaluated for application of two biocatalysts in a cofactor dependent reaction. Promising immobilization and activity yields were obtained by covalent immobilization on synthesized hydrophilic silica particles. High reaction stabilities for the two immobilized enzymes resulted in a 10‐fold increase of the turnover ...
