Floral adaptation and modular trait evolution associated with a shift from bee to hummingbird pollination

open access: yesPlant Biology, EarlyView.
By comparing floral trait variation, integration and modularity in two sister species of Neotropical Costus with a pollination shift, we show that, despite pollination syndrome divergence, both species exhibit low floral variation and functional modularity, consistent with pollinator‐driven selection on traits mediating pollen transfer efficiency and ...

A dual pollination strategy combining perfume attraction and food deception in Galeandra blanchetii E.S. Rand (Orchidaceae)

open access: yesPlant Biology, EarlyView.
Galeandra blanchetii exhibits a dual‐attraction strategy: male euglossine bees are lured by floral scents as a resource, while both sexes are deceived by non‐existent nectar. Pollination only occurs when bees enter the spur to search for nectar, highlighting an evolutionary transition towards the perfume flower syndrome in Catasetinae.

Antidiabetic Effect of Tiger Nut and Coconut Blend in Experimental Type 2 Diabetic Rat Model

open access: yesPhytochemicals in Food and Medicine, Volume 1, Issue 4, December 2026.
The combination of tiger nut and coconut demonstrated antihyperglycemic, antihyperlipidemic, anti‐inflammatory, and antioxidant activities on type 2 diabetic rat model over a 4‐week treatment period. ABSTRACT Tiger nut and coconut are chewy and popularly consumed as food either alone, mixed, or paired with other fruits, seeds, and vegetables.

Chemical Characterisation of Steam‐Distilled Essential Oils From Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus Stapf) and Ginger Rhizomes (Zingiber officinale Roscoe) Using FTIR and GC‐MS: Comparison of Phytochemical Composition

open access: yesPhytochemicals in Food and Medicine, Volume 1, Issue 4, December 2026.
Illustration of essential oil extraction coupled with characterisation. ABSTRACT Essential oils from lemongrass and ginger rhizomes contain bioactive compounds with potential for nutraceutical and pharmaceutical applications. In this study, essential oils were extracted from ginger rhizomes and lemongrass by the steam distillation method, using a ...
