Evaluation of Pulmonary Embolism in the Emergency Department and Consistency With a National Quality Measure: Quantifying the opportunity for improvement [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Background The National Quality Forum (NQF) has endorsed a performance measure designed to increase imaging efficiency for the evaluation of pulmonary embolism (PE) in the emergency department (ED).

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Relevance of Interleukin-6 and D-Dimer for Serious Non-AIDS Morbidity and Death among HIV-Positive Adults on Suppressive Antiretroviral Therapy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background: Despite effective antiretroviral treatment (ART), HIV-positive individuals are at increased risk of serious non-AIDS conditions (cardiovascular, liver and renal disease, and cancers), perhaps due in part to ongoing inflammation and/or ...

Increased tumor necrosis factor alpha and interleukin-6 serum levels and their correlation with laboratory parameters in patients with imported malaria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In malaria, blood concentrations of proinflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin (IL)-6, are increased. In a study which included 34 patients, TNF-α and IL-6 were examined in two phases, immediately after the ...

A synthetic benzoxazine dimer derivative targets c‐Myc to inhibit colorectal cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Benzoxazine dimer derivatives bind to the bHLH‐LZ region of c‐Myc, disrupting c‐Myc/MAX complexes, which are evaluated from SAR analysis. This increases ubiquitination and reduces cellular c‐Myc. Impairing DNA repair mechanisms is shown through proteomic analysis.

D-Dimer Testing in Pregnancy [PDF]

open access: yesPathophysiology of Haemostasis and Thrombosis, 2003
Normal pregnancy is associated with alterations of the hemostatic system toward a hypercoagulable state. Elevated markers of coagulation and fibrinolytic system activation, such as D-dimer, indicate increased thrombin activity and increased fibrinolysis following fibrin formation throughout pregnancy.

Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.

Effect of CMF-chemotherapy on blood coagulation in patients with breast cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
BACKGROUND: Influences of CMF (cyclophosphamide, methotrexate,5-fluorouracil) chemotherapy on blood coagulation were investigated in 30 patients receiving adjuvant chemotherapy and in 30 patients receiving chemotherapy for metastatic breast cancer ...

Therapeutic strategies for MMAE‐resistant bladder cancer through DPP4 inhibition

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We established monomethyl auristatin E (MMAE)‐resistant bladder cancer (BC) cell lines by exposure to progressively increasing concentrations of MMAE in vitro. RNA sequencing showed DPP4 expression was increased in MMAE‐resistant BC cells. Both si‐DPP4 and the DPP4 inhibitor sitagliptin suppressed the viability of MMAE‐resistant BC cells.
