Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

REGULAR D-OPTIMAL SPRING BALANCE WEIGHING DESIGNS: CONSTRUCTION

open access: yesActa Universitatis Lodziensis. Folia Oeconomica, 2014
Spring balance weighing design there is the model of experiment in that the result of experiment we can present as linear combination of unknown measurements of objects with factors of this combination equal to zero or one.

On the Smith normal form of D-optimal designs

open access: yesLinear Algebra and its Applications, 1996
A \((2v\times 2v)\)-matrix with entries from \(\{-1, 1\}\) is called a \(D\)-optimal design of order \(2v\) if it has maximum determinant in the class of all matrices of this type. The authors study the Smith normal form (SNF) of designs in order to have sufficient conditions that two designs are not permutation-equivalent.

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

A Study on the Optimal Ratio of Research and Development Investment in the Energy Sector: An Empirical Analysis in South Korea

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
The necessity for energy research and development (ER&D) is increasing as greenhouse gases and climate change are becoming global issues. To support sustainable economic growth through ER&D, it is necessary to examine the optimal ratio of ER& ...

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Optimal Viewpoint Assistance for Cooperative Manipulation Using D-Optimality

open access: yesSensors
This study proposes a D-optimality-based viewpoint selection method to improve visual assistance for a manipulator by optimizing camera placement. The approach maximizes the information gained from visual observations, reducing uncertainty in object ...

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Sustainable growth under pollution quotas: optimal R&D, investment and replacement policies [PDF]

open access: yes
We consider an optimal growth model of an economy facing an exogenous pollution quota. In the absence of an international market of pollution permits, the economy has three instruments to reach sustainable growth: R&D to develop cleaner technologies ...

ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.
