Sleeping under the Ocean: Despite Total Isolation, Nuclear Submariners Maintain Their Sleep and Wake Patterns throughout Their Under Sea Mission. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
To assess the effects of isolation, inadequate exposure to light and specific shift work on the subjective and objective measurements of sleep and alertness of submariners.A strictly controlled randomized crossover study with the polysomnography recorded

Characterization of Nettle Fibers (Urtica dioica L.) for Eco-Textile Applications: Influence of Water Retting Duration

open access: yesJournal of Natural Fibers
The global textile and composite industries are heavily reliant on petroleum-based synthetic fibers, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions, microplastic pollution, and persistent environmental waste.

Packed for Ossification: High‐Density Bioprinting of hPDC Spheroids in HAMA Toward Endochondral Ossification

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Human periosteum‐derived cell spheroids bioprinted at high density within a hyaluronic acid matrix promote fusion and hypertrophic cartilage formation in vitro. Early encapsulation enhances spheroid interaction and matrix maturation, generating scalable cartilage templates intended for endochondral bone regeneration.

Flexible Chemiresistive Chitosan‐Glycerol Sensors on Laser‐Induced Graphene Electrodes for Room‐Temperature Ammonia Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Flexible Chitosan‐glycerol sensor integrated with porous laser‐induced graphene (LIG) electrodes enable room‐temperature chemiresistive detection of ammonia (NH3) and proof‐of‐concept detection of fish spoilage. ABSTRACT We report a metal‐free sensor platform combining laser induced graphene (LIG) electrodes with drop‐deposited, glycerol‐plasticized ...

Testing and Simulation of Multilayer Polyvinylidene Fluoride‐Based Piezoelectric Energy Harvester Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
The study considers the use of polymer/dielectric‐based multilayers piezoelectric Energy Harvesters (EH) to produce an output voltage and current, by exploiting the mechanical energy provided by human organs movements. In particular, the heart motion is considered from the kinematic viewpoint, and a multiphysics theoretical model is developed to assess

EMS mutagenesis screening for mutants that lost the hypersensitive response (HR) induced by Rp1-D21.

open access: yes, 2015
(A) The growth phenotype of Rp1-D21 heterozygotes in the field compared to the Rp1-D21 mutant in which the HR phenotype is suppressed (arrow). (B) Twelve missense (in black) and two nonsense (in red) point mutations that abolished the HR phenotype of Rp1-

Protein expression of the tear film of domestic cats before and after inoculation with Toxoplasma gondii

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research, 2021
Background Tear film (TF) helps maintain and protect ocular function against damage to the ocular surface. Proteins are one of its main constituents, whose expression pattern can be used as a biomarker of ocular changes and systemic diseases.

Ultrasound‐Actuated Gene Editing in Human Kidney Organoids

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Peptide‐stabilized nanoemulsions enable spatially controlled, ultrasound‐triggered delivery of gene‐editing proteins deep within human kidney organoid tissues. Focused acoustic pulses drive droplet vaporization, propelling cargo into target renal cells while preserving native tissue microarchitecture. This non‐viral platform improves both the depth and

MPTP impairs dopamine D1 receptor-mediated survival of newborn neurons in ventral hippocampus to cause depressive-like behaviors in adult mice

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Neuroscience, 2016
Parkinson’s disease is characterized by motor symptoms with depression. We evaluated the influence of dopaminergic depletion on hippocampal neurogenesis process to explore mechanisms of depression production.
