Dantrolene in severe tetanus

open access: yesIntensive Care Medicine, 1988
In its most severe form tetanus is treated with prolonged use of neuromuscular blockade, and artificial ventilation. We report a case in which the use of dantrolene sodium shortened the period of artificial ventilation.

In vitroantioxidant properties of dantrolene sodium

open access: yesPharmacological Research, 2001
Dantrolene sodium is a skeletal muscle relaxant, which inhibits intracellular Ca2+ release from the sarcoplasmic reticulum. The aim of this study is to examine possible in vitro antioxidant effects of dantrolene sodium.

Dantrolene and suxamethonium

Anaesthesia, 1979
A single oral dose of dantrolene (100--150 mg) given at least 2 hr pre-operatively has been found to reduce significantly the strength of muscular fasciculations, the hyperkalaemia and the incidence of muscle pains following suxamethonium (from 56 to 4%) in a series of forty-eight patients compared with controls.

Hyperkalemia after Dantrolene and Verapamil-Dantrolene Administration in Dogs

Anesthesia & Analgesia, 1988
The concurrent administration of dantrolene and verapamil has the theoretical advantage of being more efficacious than dantrolene alone in the treatment of malignant hyperthermia. However, the combination has been reported to cause fatal hyperkalemia in pigs.
