Energy Injection And Absorption In The Cosmic Dark Ages

open access: yes, 2012
Dark matter annihilation or de-excitation, decay of metastable species, or other new physics may inject energetic electrons and photons into the photon-baryon fluid during and after recombination.

Mechanisms of parasite‐mediated disruption of brain vessels

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Parasites can affect the blood vessels of the brain, often causing serious neurological problems. This review explains how different parasites interact with and disrupt these vessels, what this means for brain health, and why these processes matter. Understanding these mechanisms may help us develop better ways to prevent or treat brain infections in ...

Behavioral characteristics of a chondrostean sturgeon species Acipenser baerii prelarvae in response to different environmental light intensities in a diel photoperiodic cycle

open access: yesJournal of Animal Reproduction and Biotechnology, 2020
Behavioral response to a diel photoperiodicity (500 lx for 16 h, 5 lx for 4 h and < 0.5 lx for 4 h) and phototactic characteristics in dark conditions were examined with Siberian sturgeon Acipenser baerii (Chondrostei, Actinopterygii) prelarvae. Siberian

Neutralino Annihilations and the Gas Temperature in the Dark Ages

open access: yes, 2007
Assuming the dark matter is made entirely from neutralinos, we re-visit the role of their annihilation on the temperature of diffuse gas in the high redshift universe. We consider neutralinos of particle mass 36 GeV and 100 GeV, respectively.

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

PARP inhibitors elicit distinct transcriptional programs in homologous recombination competent castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PARP inhibitors are used to treat a small subset of prostate cancer patients. These studies reveal that PARP1 activity and expression are different between European American and African American prostate cancer tissue samples. Additionally, different PARP inhibitors cause unique and overlapping transcriptional changes, notably, p53 pathway upregulation.

Detecting the 21 cm Signal from the Cosmic Dark Ages

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The cosmic “dark ages” is the period between the last scattering of the cosmic microwave background and the appearance of the first luminous sources, spanning redshifts 1100 ≳  z  ≳ 30.

Investigating the cell of origin and novel molecular targets in Merkel cell carcinoma: a historic misnomer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study indicates that Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) does not originate from Merkel cells, and identifies gene, protein & cellular expression of immune‐linked and neuroendocrine markers in primary and metastatic Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) tumor samples, linked to Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) status, with enrichment of B‐cell and other immune cell

Effect of Breeder Age on the Progeny Performance of Three Naked-Neck Chicken Phenotypes [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Poultry Science, 2019
The study was planned to evaluate the effect of different naked-neck (NN) chicken genotypes and breeder ages on the growth performance of their progenies.
