Increased expression of dectin-1 in nasal polyps
American Journal of Otolaryngology, 2013A fungal etiology has been proposed to underlie severe nasal polyps (NP). Dectin-1 is an innate immune pattern recognition receptor which is involved in the recognition of some pathogenic fungi. We investigated the Dectin-1 levels in NP in order to evaluate the implication of such expression with respect to the development of NP.Normal inferior ...

Dectin-1 limits allergic responses
Science, 2018Allergy Aberrant activation of pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) drives inflammation in autoimmune and allergic diseases. Gour et al. identified invertebrate tropomyosin from house dust mites and shrimp as a ligand for dectin-1. Dectin-1 is a PRR that recognizes fungal β-glucans in antifungal immune responses.

Molecular and functional characterization of human Dectin-1
Experimental Hematology, 2002Dendritic cells (DC) have several unique features that differ from other antigen-presenting cells and that enable them to initiate primary immune responses. The aim of this study was to identify and characterize genes that are differentially expressed in DC generated from CD14+ peripheral blood monocytes in vitro.Using a subtractive cDNA library, we ...

Dectin-1 (CLEC7A, BGR, CLECSF12)
2016Dectin-1 is the archetypical example of the C-type lectin receptor (CLR) family of pattern recognition receptors (PRRs). Expressed primarily by cells of the innate immune system, this receptor is best known for its role in antifungal immunity through its ability to recognise cell wall β-glucans.

Roles of Dectin-1 in Allergic Airway Inflammation
Critical Reviews in Immunology, 2017Asthma is a chronic allergic inflammatory disease of the airways. The symptoms can be controlled by inhaled corticosteroids together with long-acting β2 agonists in the majority of patients; however, in some patients, their symptoms remain uncontrolled even under intensive treatment.

The Role of Dectin-1 in Antifungal Immunity
Critical Reviews in Immunology, 2004beta-Glucans are structural components of fungal cell walls, which have a stimulatory effect on the immune system. Although a number of receptors for these carbohydrates have been proposed, the recently identified C-type lectin-like receptor, Dectin-1, appears to play a central role.

Fusarium solani Activates Dectin-1 in Experimentally Induced Keratomycosis
Current Medical Science, 2018In this study, the response of Dectin-1 on macrophages to Fusarium solani (F. solani) and the expression patterns of Dectin-1 in experimentally F. solani-induced keratomycosis were investigated. Peritoneal macrophages isolated after intraperitoneal injection of sodium thioglycollate were co-cultured with laminarin and spores of F. solani for 12 h.

Dectin-1: unique appetite for yeast
Blood, 2004Comment on Herre et al, page [4038][1] Dectin-1 is a myeloid receptor involved in phagocytosis of fungal pathogens that uses a unique mechanism of internalization and cellular signaling. P hagocytosis of pathogens is a critically important activity of cells of the innate immune system.

Identification of the Porcine C-type lectin dectin-1
Veterinary Immunology and Immunopathology, 2009Beta-glucans are conserved glucose polymers found in the cell walls of plants, fungi, yeasts and bacteria. They have a backbone of beta-(1-3)-linked glucose units with beta-(1-6)-glucan-linkages. Although a number of receptors are thought to play a role in mediating the biological response to beta-glucans, dectin-1, a C-type lectin, was described as ...

beta-Glucans are naturally occurring carbohydrates that possess immune-modulating activities, but their mechanisms of action are largely unknown. Recent discoveries, however, including identification of beta-glucan receptors, such as dectin-1, have started to shed some light on the mechanisms underlying the properties of these carbohydrates.
