Dissection and function of autoimmunity-associated TNFAIP3 (A20) gene enhancers in humanized mouse models

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
The human TNFAIP3 gene, which encodes for A20, is associated with autoimmune diseases. Here, the authors use BAC transgenics combined with CRISPR- and recombineering-mediated genome editing to dissect in vivo and in primary immune cells, the role of ...

A novel magnetic resonance imaging postprocessing technique for the assessment of intervertebral disc degeneration-Correlation with histological grading in a rabbit disc degeneration model. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Introduction:Estimation of intervertebral disc degeneration on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is challenging. Qualitative schemes used in clinical practice correlate poorly with pain and quantitative techniques have not entered widespread clinical use.

Role of mTORC1 activity during early retinal development and lamination in human-induced pluripotent stem cell‐derived retinal organoids

open access: yesCell Death Discovery, 2022
Retinal organoids derived from human-induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSC) are powerful tools for studying retinal development as they model spatial and temporal differentiation of retinal cell types.

On the Euler characteristic of Kronecker moduli spaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Combining the MPS degeneration formula for the Poincar\'e polynomial of moduli spaces of stable quiver representations and localization theory, it turns that the determination of the Euler characteristic of these moduli spaces reduces to a combinatorial ...

Selenoprotein T Protects Endothelial Cells against Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Activation and Apoptosis

open access: yesAntioxidants, 2021
Sepsis is an exaggerated immune response upon infection with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) as the main causative agent. LPS-induced activation and apoptosis of endothelial cells (EC) can lead to organ dysfunction and finally organ failure.

Snake and spider toxins induce a rapid recovery of function of botulinum neurotoxin paralysed neuromuscular junction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Botulinum neurotoxins (BoNTs) and some animal neurotoxins (-Bungarotoxin, -Btx, from elapid snakes and -Latrotoxin, -Ltx, from black widow spiders) are pre-synaptic neurotoxins that paralyse motor axon terminals with similar clinical outcomes in patients.

IFN-γ selectively suppresses a subset of TLR4-activated genes and enhancers to potentiate macrophage activation

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Macrophage activation is synergistically controlled by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and interferon-γ (IFN-γ). Here the authors show that IFN-γ promotes macrophage activation not only by activating STAT1-dependent genes, but also by suppressing STAT3 ...

The effectiveness of Bacopa monnieri (Linn.) Wettst. as a nootropic, neuroprotective, or antidepressant supplement: analysis of the available clinical data

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Bacopa monnieri (Linn.) Wettst. has been used in traditional medicine as a drug to enhance and improve memory. In this regard, this study aims to provide B.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Limitations and modifications in the clinical application of calcium sulfate

open access: yesFrontiers in Surgery
Calcium sulfate and calcium sulfate-based biomaterials have been widely used in non-load-bearing bone defects for hundreds of years due to their superior biocompatibility, biodegradability, and non-toxicity.
