Land degradation: links to agricultural output and profitability

open access: yes
To understand land degradation and assess policy responses, knowledge is needed of the bio-physical causes, the economic effects on farms and the incentives farmers face to avoid or ameliorate the degradation.

Interaction of HS1BP3 with cortactin modulates TKS5 localisation, cell secretion and cancer malignancy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Here, we demonstrate that HS1BP3 interacts with Cortactin through a proline‐rich region (PRR3.1) and show that this interaction, and HS1BP3 itself, promote cancer cell proliferation and invasion. Inhibition of this interaction leads to build‐up of TKS5 in multivesicular endosomes and altered secretion of CD63 and CD9, providing an explanation for the ...

Degradation of quantum dot lasers for silicon photonics: role of p-dopant and advanced defect spectroscopy

open access: yes
reservedThis thesis addresses the degradation mechanisms of quantum-dot lasers for silicon photonics by means of two different experiments. The first one had the goal of determining how different types of doping schemes, including beryllium, carbon, and ...

Ube2m-Mediated P27kip1 Degradation in Gemcitabine Cytotoxicity

open access: yes, 2012
Gemcitabine 2-deoxy-2, 2-difluorocytidine; Gem is a nucleoside anti- metabolite and is commonly used for treating various human cancers including human bladder carcinoma. Gemcitabine not only functions as a suicide nucleoside analog but also inhibits DNA

ESR1 methylation and ESR1 mutations in circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and paired plasma‐cfDNA of advanced breast cancer patients: A feasibility proof‐of‐concept study

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and plasma cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) were analyzed to detect ESR1 mutations and methylation in patients with advanced breast cancer. CTC‐derived DNA showed higher sensitivity for mutation detection and revealed complementary genetic and epigenetic alterations, highlighting the added value of CTC analysis for understanding ...

Interpreting the effects of DNA polymerase variants at the structural level

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using MAVISp and molecular dynamics simulations, we analyzed over 60 000 missense variants in POLE and POLD1 from ClinVar, COSMIC, cBioPortal, and saturation mutagenesis. Identified mechanistic indicators, including stability, binding, and long‐range, enable structural interpretation, providing ACMG‐like evidence for possible reclassification of VUS ...

Follicle-stimulating hormone promotes EndMT in endothelial cells by upregulating ALKBH5 expression

open access: yesCellular & Molecular Biology Letters
Background The incidence of atherosclerosis markedly rises following menopause. Our previous findings demonstrated that elevated follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) levels in postmenopausal women accelerate atherosclerosis progression. Plaque instability,

Handbook of Environmental Degradation of Materials

open access: yes, 2012
Nothing stays the same for ever. The environmental degradation and corrosion of materials is inevitable and affects most aspects of life. In industrial settings, this inescapable fact has very significant financial, safety and environmental implications.

Proteasome inhibitor, ixazomib prevents topoisomerase‐I degradation and reverses irinotecan resistance in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Ixazomib inhibits proteasome‐mediated degradation of topoisomerase I induced by irinotecan, thereby restoring drug sensitivity and promoting tumor cell death in colorectal cancer. Irinotecan, a topoisomerase I (topoI) inhibitor, is widely used for colorectal cancer, but resistance remains a major clinical challenge.

Clinical performance of the urine‐based TERT promoter AbsoluteQ Digital PCR for non‐invasive detection of bladder cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A urine‐based digital PCR assay targeting two hotspot TERT promoter variants detected bladder cancer with high sensitivity and no false positives in this case–control cohort. The streamlined AbsoluteQ workflow outperformed Sanger sequencing and supports non‐invasive molecular testing for bladder cancer detection.
