Late-season Corn Development and Frost Probabilities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Cool August temperatures across Iowa slow growing degree day (GDD) accumulations. In addition, Iowa’s late corn planting dates this year obviously impacted the crop as well.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Local sensitivity analysis of heating degree day and cooling degree day temperature derivative prices

open access: yesQuantitative Finance
We study the local sensitivity of heating degree day (HDD) and cooling degree day (CDD) temperature futures and option prices with respect to perturbations in the deseasonalized temperature or in one of its derivatives up to a certain order determined by the continuous-time autoregressive process modelling the deseasonalized temperature in the HDD and ...

Therapeutic strategies for MMAE‐resistant bladder cancer through DPP4 inhibition

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We established monomethyl auristatin E (MMAE)‐resistant bladder cancer (BC) cell lines by exposure to progressively increasing concentrations of MMAE in vitro. RNA sequencing showed DPP4 expression was increased in MMAE‐resistant BC cells. Both si‐DPP4 and the DPP4 inhibitor sitagliptin suppressed the viability of MMAE‐resistant BC cells.

Recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming and confer resistance to targeted therapies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that the majority of the 18 analyzed recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming. The most potent mutations are activating, co‐operate with other ERBB receptors, and are sensitive to pan‐ERBB inhibitors. Activating ERBB4 mutations also promote therapy resistance in EGFR‐mutant lung cancer.

PHENOLOGY, MOVEMENT, AND WITHIN-FIELD DISTRIBUTION OF THE GRAPE BERRY MOTH, ENDOPIZA VITEANA (CLEMENS) (LEPIDOPTERA: TORTRICIDAE), IN NEW YORK VINEYARDS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
From 1976 to 1986, the average date of first male pheromone trap catch of grape berry moth was 20 May with an average degree-day (DD) accumulation (base 10 °C) of 150.1 (SE = 13.2).

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Alfalfa Weevil Hatch is Upon Us [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The map below indicates the accumulated degree days for each of the nine Iowa crop reporting districts. Degree-day information indicates that alfalfa weevil larvae should be hatching this week in southern Iowa. In central Iowa counties, weevils should be
