Extraction of pectins with different degrees of esterification from mulberry branch bark
Bioresource Technology, 2010Pectins were extracted from mulberry branch bark, a byproduct of the sericulture industry. A single-factor experiment was used to optimize the production conditions. Under optimal conditions, the galacturonic acid yields from bark with and without epidermis were 61.73 + or - 1.39% and 35.12 + or - 0.24%, respectively.

Ionic-liquid-based method to determine the degree of esterification in cellulose fibers
The Analyst, 2009An ATR-FT-IR-based method was applied to measure the degree of substitution (DS) of esterified cellulose. The strategy makes use of the capability of certain ionic liquids (ILs) to dissolve cellulose derivatives. To avoid high viscosity that could hamper the correct measurement, a mixture of DMSO/IL (2 : 1, w/w) was applied.

Degree of methyl esterification: A key factor for the encapsulation of icaritin with pectin
International Journal of Biological MacromoleculesPectin is a promising nano-carrier. The degree of methyl esterification (DM) influences the physiochemical properties of pectin. However, the effect of DM on the encapsulation capacity of pectin remains unclear. In this work, low methyl-esterified pectin (LMP) and high methyl-esterified pectin (HMP) were prepared.

The degradation of pectins in aqueous (NaCl 0.1 mol/dm3 initial pH 7) non-buffered solutions increases with temperature and methyl content when evaluated from the evolution of the specific viscosity versus time. Approximating the initial phase of the degradation by a first order kinetics, the activation energies for the β elimination are respectively ...

Degree of Esterification and Gelling Properties of Pectin Structure in Coffee Pulp
Key Engineering Materials, 2016Pectin is a high value functional food ingredient widely used as a gelling agent and stabilizer. The chemical structure of pectin has been the subject of scientific investigations for decades. Coffee producers remove beans; the other source of pectin, from coffee cherries is thrown away.

Degree of Esterification of Pectins Determined by Photoacoustic Near Infrared Spectroscopy
Journal of Food Science, 1986ABSTRACT Photoacoustic near infrared absorption of powdery pectins was used to determine the degree of esterification by measuring the wavelength shift of an absorption peak of pectins relative to polygalacturonic acid. The 2σ standard deviation of the degree of esterification by this method was 1.7%.

Based on the hydrogen bonding ability of polysaccharides and phospholipids and steric hindrance, nanoliposomes (LPs), pectin-coated resveratrol liposomes (LMP-LPs and HMP-LPs) with different esterification degrees (DE = 30%, 70%) were prepared. The entrapment efficiency was 78 ± 5%. The addition of pectin with different degree of esterification (DE = 0%

Previous studies have suggested that depression and suicide are related to alterations in total cholesterol serum concentrations, and that an altered distribution of haptoglobin (Hp) phenotypes in major depression indicates that variation on chromosome 16 may be associated with that illness.

A method for quantitative determination of uronic acids and the degree of esterification of their carboxyl groups in plant tissues and products of their processing is described. The method involves determination of the difference between the concentrations of Cu2+ in solution before and after interaction of copper with the substance in question. Copper
