Rare Dissipative Transitions Punctuate the Initiation of Chemical Denaturation in Proteins [PDF]

Protein unfolding dynamics are bound by their degree of entropy production, a quantity that relates the amount of heat dissipated by a nonequilibrium process to a system's forward and time-reversed trajectories. We here explore the statistics of heat dissipation that emerge in protein molecules subjected to a chemical denaturant.

CEACAM1 participation in breast cancer progression

In invasive breast cancer (BC), CEACAM1 shifts from an apical to a uniform membranous/cytoplasmic pattern, or is lost, as tumors dedifferentiate, inversely tracking the Ki‐67 proliferative index. In MCF‐7 cells, only CEACAM1‐4L suppresses proliferation, repressing cell cycle and growth factor genes.

A yeast model of 5‐oxoproline accumulation reveals a general toleration to 5‐oxoproline

Hyperactive ice‐binding proteins stabilize cell membranes and improve resistance to dehydration stress in Caenorhabditis elegans

TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.
