Apoprotein B, the major apoprotein of normal human low density lipoprotein (LDL) was solubilized with sodium deoxycholate (NaDC). The protein was recombined with the phospholipid dimyristoyl phosphatidylcholine (DMPC) to produce a complex of DMPC-apoB (4:

Twist versus Nonlinear Stacking in Short DNA Molecules
The denaturation of the double helix is a template for fundamental biological functions such as replication and transcription involving the formation of local fluctuational openings.

Statistical mechanics of RNA folding: a lattice approach [PDF]
We propose a lattice model for RNA based on a self-interacting two-tolerant trail. Self-avoidance and elements of tertiary structure are taken into account.

We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Denaturation of Circular DNA: Supercoil Mechanism
The denaturation transition which takes place in circular DNA is analyzed by extending the Poland-Scheraga model to include the winding degrees of freedom.

Lyapunov exponents as a dynamical indicator of a phase transition [PDF]
We study analytically the behavior of the largest Lyapunov exponent $\lambda_1$ for a one-dimensional chain of coupled nonlinear oscillators, by combining the transfer integral method and a Riemannian geometry approach.

Rare Dissipative Transitions Punctuate the Initiation of Chemical Denaturation in Proteins [PDF]
Protein unfolding dynamics are bound by their degree of entropy production, a quantity that relates the amount of heat dissipated by a nonequilibrium process to a system's forward and time-reversed trajectories. We here explore the statistics of heat dissipation that emerge in protein molecules subjected to a chemical denaturant.

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...

Differences in pressure and temperature transitions of proteins and polymer gels
Pressure-driven and temperature-driven transitions of two thermoresponsive polymers, poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (pNIPAM) and poly(N-vinylisobutyramide) (pNVIBA)), in both a soluble linear polymer form and a cross-linked hydro-gel form, were examined by ...

A regulatory axis involving APE1, AUF1, and miR‐221 is proposed. Pri‐miR‐221 is processed by DROSHA and DICER to generate mature miR‐221, which targets p27Kip1 mRNA. APE1 and AUF1 compete for pre‐miR‐221 binding. Reduced APE1/AUF1 levels impair miR‐221 biogenesis, decrease p27Kip1 mRNA degradation, and promote cell cycle progression, chemoresistance ...
