Microfluidic sorting selects sperm for clinical use with reduced DNA damage compared to density gradient centrifugation with swim-up in split semen samples

open access: yesHuman Reproduction, 2018
STUDY QUESTION Does microfluidic sorting improve the selection of sperm with lower DNA fragmentation over standard density-gradient centrifugation? SUMMARY ANSWER Microfluidic sorting of unprocessed semen allows for the selection of clinically usable ...

Different Methods for Seminal Plasma Removal and Sperm Selection on the Quality and Fertility of Collared Peccary Sperm

open access: yesAnimals, 2023
Methods for seminal plasma (SP) removal and the selection of collared peccary sperm for fertilization were compared. The experiments evaluated the following: the (I) impact of centrifugation for SP removal before swim-up for sperm selection and (II) a ...

Preparation of purified peste des petits ruminants (PPR) virus antigen from a local isolate of Bangladesh

open access: yesFundamental and Applied Agriculture, 2019
Peste des petits ruminants (PPR) is the number one killer disease of small ruminants. The disease causes severe losses to small ruminant production and is presently considered as one of the major threats to about 22 million small ruminant population of ...

Timing of semen cryopreservation: before or after processing? [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Ginecologia e Obstetrícia
Objective: Seminal cryopreservation causes significant damage to the sperm; therefore, different methods of cryopreservation have been studied. The aim of the study was to compare the effects of density gradient processing and washing/centrifugation with

Comparison of two sperm processing techniques for low complexity assisted fertilization: sperm washing followed by swim-up and discontinuous density gradient centrifugation

open access: yesJBRA Assisted Reproduction, 2016
Objective This study aimed to assess and compare sperm motility, concentration, and morphology recovery rates, before and after processing through sperm washing followed by swim-up or discontinuous density gradient centrifugation in normospermic ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Fractionating microplastics by density gradient centrifugation: a novel approach using LuerLock syringes in a low-cost density gradient maker

open access: yesChemistry Teacher International
Microplastics are now ubiquitous in the environment and are even considered “technofossils” of the Anthropocene. Given their omnipresence and potential impact, identifying and analyzing these particles becomes increasingly crucial.
