Functionalized Nanogap for DNA Read‐Out: Nucleotide Rotation and Current‐Voltage Curves

open access: yesChemPhysChem, Volume 21, Issue 18, Page 2068-2074, September 15, 2020., 2020
An applied voltage bias across a nanogap opened by diamondoid‐functionalized electrodes can be used to detect the identity of DNA nucleotides. For the detection, the different rotations of the DNA inside the nanogap control the exact value of the electronic current used for the detection.

Transfection with thymidine kinase permits bromodeoxyuridine labelling of DNA replication in the human malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Background Plasmodium falciparum, the causative agent of severe human malaria, is an early-diverging protozoan whose lifecycle has many unusual features, including its modes of replication.

Single‐base methylome profiling of the giant kelp Saccharina japonica reveals significant differences in DNA methylation to microalgae and plants

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 225, Issue 1, Page 234-249, January 2020., 2020
Summary Brown algae have convergently evolved plant‐like body plans and reproductive cycles, which in plants are controlled by differential DNA methylation. This contribution provides the first single‐base methylome profiles of haploid gametophytes and diploid sporophytes of a multicellular alga. Although only c.

Mathematical Modelling of the Molecular Mechanisms of Interaction of Tenofovir with Emtricitabine against HIV [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
The combination of the two nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTI) tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) and emtricitabine (FTC) is used in most highly active antiretroviral therapies for treatment of HIV-1 infection, as well as in pre-exposure ...

Identification of methylated deoxyadenosines in vertebrates reveals diversity in DNA modifications. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Methylation of cytosine deoxynucleotides generates 5-methylcytosine (m(5)dC), a well-established epigenetic mark. However, in higher eukaryotes much less is known about modifications affecting other deoxynucleotides. Here, we report the detection of N(6)-

transcription profiling of 3D7: assignment of cytoadherent phenotypes to dominant transcripts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Background Cytoadherence of Plasmodium falciparum -infected red blood cells is mediated by var gene-encoded P. falciparum erythrocyte membrane protein-1 and host receptor preference depends in most cases on which of the 50–60 var genes ...

Insights into the Conformation of Aminofluorene-Deoxyguanine Adduct in a DNA Polymerase Active Site [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The active site conformation of the mutagenic fluoroaminofluorene-deoxyguanine adduct (dG-FAF, N-(2′-deoxyguanosin-8-yl)-7-fluoro-2-aminofluorene) has been investigated in the presence of Klenow fragment of Escherichia coli DNA polymerase I (Kfexo−) and ...
