The stability of deoxynivalenol and 3‐acetyI deoxynivalenol to gamma irradiation
Food Additives and Contaminants, 1993The stability of deoxynivalenol and 3-acetyl deoxynivalenol to irradiation by 60Co-gamma radiation under various conditions was investigated. Deoxynivalenol and 3-acetyl deoxynivalenol were irradiated on maize, in aqueous solution and in the dry state. Breakdown of the toxins was monitored by high performance liquid chromatography.

A comparison of deoxynivalenol intake and urinary deoxynivalenol in UK adults
Biomarkers, 2010The relationship between deoxynivalenol (DON) intake and first morning urinary DON was examined in UK adults to validate the latter as a biomarker of human exposure. DON was assessed in first morning samples collected during a period of normal diet, a wheat-restriction intervention diet, and partial wheat-restriction intervention in which bread was ...

Immunosuppressive properties of deoxynivalenol
Toxicology, 1988The immunosuppressive effect of deoxynivalenol (DON) was investigated in male Balb/c mice. The effect of the route of DON administration to the animals was first studied. The results showed that DON acted efficiently on the immune system per os. The administration of 100 ppm DON in the diet caused the death of all the animals within a few days.

Food Additives & Contaminants: Part A, 2013
Beer is one of the most popular beverages worldwide. Malted cereal grains are among the basic ingredients and hence mycotoxin contamination might occur. Previous studies reported the presence of the Fusarium mycotoxins deoxynivalenol (DON) and 3-acetyl-deoxynivalenol (3ADON), as well as of the masked mycotoxin deoxynivalenol-3-glucoside (D3G) in beer ...

Cellular Apoptosis Induced by Deoxynivalenol
Indian Journal of Microbiology, 2021Deoxynivalenol (DON) is synthesized by Fusarium species that frequently infect crops during storage, and it's harm risk to human is reflected in the consumption of infected food crops or indirectly through foods of animal origin. In this study, Hela and Chang liver cells were used to research the cellular apoptosis induced by deoxynivalenol. Cells were

Occurrence of deoxynivalenol and deoxynivalenol-3-glucoside in durum wheat
World Mycotoxin Journal, 2013The occurrence of deoxynivalenol and deoxynivalenol-3-glucoside in durum wheat samples (n=150; 25 lines × 2 reps × 3 environments) collected in 2010 from 3 areas located in north-central Italy was evaluated. In addition, the co-occurrence of other trichothecenes was considered.

Sampling Wheat for Deoxynivalenol
2002The variability associated with testing wheat for deoxynivalenol (DON) was measured using a 0.454 kg sample, a Romer mill, 25 g of comminuted subsample and the Romer Fluoroquant analytical method. The total variability was partitioned into sampling, sample preparation, and analytical variability components.

Deoxynivalenol (DON) in hartweizen
Mycotoxin Research, 2004Deoxynivalenol (DON) in Durum Wheat High contamination levels of deoxynivalenol (DON) were found during an investigation of noodles in 2001 and initiated an additional survey of Durum wheat used as raw material for these products. Analyses of 53 samples of Durum wheat by HPLC revealed 89% positives and a median concentration of 790 ug/kg, which clearly

Invited Review: TOXICOLOGY OF DEOXYNIVALENOL (VOMITOXIN)
Journal of Toxicology and Environmental Health, 1996Trichothecene mycotoxins are a group of structurally similar fungal metabolites that are capable of producing a wide range of toxic effects. Deoxynivalenol (DON, vomitoxin), a trichothecene, is prevalent worldwide in crops used for food and feed production, including in Canada and the United States.
