Assessment of Deoxyribonuclease Activity in Biological Samples by a Fluorescence Detection-Based Method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Objective: To develop a speedy, sensitive, low-cost fluorescence detection assay for assessing deoxyribonuclease activity in biological samples. Methods: Deoxyribonuclease activity was measured in serum samples of 15 patients with lung cancer and 15 ...

Deoxyribonuclease Activity in Human Sperm [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Andrology, 1985
A previous failure to detect DNase activity in human sperm sonicates was ascribed to an inadequate amount of sperm used. In the present work aliquots contained more sperm (1.5-2.5/10(6)), permitting the detection of enzyme activity. The latter was significantly higher in spermatozoa of oligozoospermic origin compared with activity in normospermic ...

Taxonomic and functional shifts in the microbiome of severely obese, prediabetic patients: Ketogenic diet versus energy‐matched standard diet

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
Abstract Aims Obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are among the leading global health challenges of the 21st century. While caloric restriction remains the cornerstone of weight loss interventions, ketogenic diets (KD), characterised by low carbohydrate and high fat intake, have been shown to improve metabolic health partly by modulating the ...

Transposals of 15 or More Letters [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
Two words are called transposals if they use the same letters in a different order. The letters may be rearranged only slightly, as in BACHELOR-BUTTONS and BACHELOR\u27S-BUTTON (a trivial transposal), or they may be quite mixed, as in COUNTERDOCTRINES

In vitro antibacterial activity of crude medicinal plant extracts against ampicillin+penicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Staphylococcus aureus is the leading cause for foodborne diseases. Extensive use of antibiotics has led to emergence of antibiotic-resistant S. aureus.

Adipocyte fatty acid‐binding protein as a cerebrospinal fluid–accessible biomarker and druggable target in subarachnoid haemorrhage: Linking fatty acid dysregulation to microglial neuroinflammation

open access: yesClinical and Translational Medicine, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
A‐FABP mediates neuroinflammation and exaggerates SAH outcomes: In response to SAH, elevated A‐FABP combines with fatty acids to promote microglia activation via the JAK2/STAT3 pathway, while simultaneously disrupting fatty acid metabolism. These dual effects exacerbate neuroinflammation and neurological deterioration, thereby contributing to adverse ...

Codominance and toxins: A path to drugs of nearly unlimited selectivity [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
The effectiveness of drugs is often limited by their insufficient selectivity. I propose designs of therapeutic agents that address this problem. The key feature of these reagents, termed comtoxins (codominance-mediated toxins), is their ability to ...

Nanomedicine Strategies Against Biofilm‐Associated Infections: Advances, Challenges, and Translational Barriers

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 1, February 2026.
Explore the key challenges and limitations in nanomedicine for biofilm treatment, from drug loading efficiency to antimicrobial resistance. ABSTRACT Antimicrobial resistance continues to rise globally, with biofilm‐associated infections intensifying the clinical burden through persistent tolerance to antibiotics and evasion of immune responses ...

Discovery of a novel restriction endonuclease by genome comparison and application of a wheat-germ-based cell-free translation assay: PabI (5′-GTA/C) from the hyperthermophilic archaeon Pyrococcus abyssi [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
To search for restriction endonucleases, we used a novel plant-based cell-free translation procedure that bypasses the toxicity of these enzymes. To identify candidate genes, the related genomes of the hyperthermophilic archaea Pyrococcus abyssi and ...

Extracellular Deoxyribonuclease Production by Yeasts [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1969
A total of 20 genera of yeasts and yeastlike organisms were tested for their ability to produce an extracellular deoxyribonuclease. Results indicate that ability to produce the enzyme appears to be a specific characteristic of the three genera Rhodotorula, Cryptococcus , and Tremella .
