Capsular Type, Sequence Type and Microbial Resistance Factors Impact on DNase Activity of Streptococcus agalactiae Strains from Human and Bovine Origin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Extracellular deoxyribonucleases (DNases) contribute to the spread of pathogenic bacteria through the evasion from host innate immunity. Our main objective was to evaluate the production of extracellular DNases by human and bovine Streptococcus ...

Elevated Apolipoprotein E Expression in Hippocampal Microglia Drives Temporal Lobe Epilepsy Progression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 2, 9 January 2026.
In temporal lobe epilepsy, hippocampal APOE is markedly upregulated predominantly in microglia. APOE overexpression in microglia drives TLR4 and cGAS/STING‐dependent neuroinflammation, engages bidirectional crosstalk with neurons and astrocytes, increases neuronal excitability, and perturbs hippocampal lipid metabolism. These findings suggest that APOE‐

Lactylated SPTAN1 Accelerates Hepatocellular Carcinoma Progression by Promoting NOTCH1/HES1 Activation and Immunosuppression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 6, 30 January 2026.
This study identifies SPTAN1‐kla as a novel oncogenic driver in HBV‐driven HCC, linking metabolic, epigenetic, and immune mechanisms. SPTAN1‐kla promotes HCC progression via NOTCH1/HES1 activation and immunosuppression. Findings highlight that targeting SPTAN1‐kla provides a framework for HCC treatment to improve clinical outcomes in HBV infected ...

Midkine‐Mediated Microglia Activation after Renal Injury Promotes Cognitive Impairment Following Ischemic Renal Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 3, 14 January 2026.
The mechanism of secondary cognitive impairment following AKI. When renal ischemic injury progresses to fibrosis, renal fibroblasts and damaged tubular cells secrete MDK, which circulates through the bloodstream, crosses the damaged BBB, and accumulates in the hippocampus tissue (an area crucial for learning and memory).

Nanoparticle‐Modified Nanofibers Induce Ferroptosis and Stimulate Antitumor Immunity for Melanoma Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 1, 5 January 2026.
This study presents a nanoparticle‐embedded nanofiber (5F/STFM/R‐ES) to inhibit melanoma growth and reduce the risk of metastasis and recurrence. The drug delivery system induces ferroptosis and potentiates immunotherapy through resiquimod (R848) and Fe/Mn‐based metal‐polyphenol networks (TFM).

Interior Decorative VOCs Elevate T Cell‐Mediated Obstructive Lung Disease Risks via Osteogenesis‐Driven Lymphoid‐Biased Hematopoiesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 4, 19 January 2026.
This study utilizes a whole‐body inhalation model to reveal that interior decorative VOCs exposure persistently elevates alveolar T cells. This increase is attributed to lymphoid‐biased hematopoiesis in the bone marrow, which is further driven by IL‐6/IL‐17A‐mediated osteogenic differentiation.

Deoxyribonuclease activities in Lactobacillus delbrueckii

open access: yesMicrobiological Research, 2000
DNase activity was examined in the extracellular and subcellular fractions of six non-transformable strains belonging to Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. lactis (L. lactis) and Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus (L. bulgaricus) and compared with the activity present in Lactobacillus johnsonii NCK 65, a transformable strain of Lactobacillus. Ex Vivo Spatiotemporal Characterization of Spermatogenesis in Mouse Testicular Organoids

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 4, 19 January 2026.
To date, in vitro spermatogenesis remains a challenge in reproductive medicine. In this study, Sun et al. developed a promising in vitro strategy to generate testicular organoids that enable germ cells from newborn mice to enter meiosis, complete chromosome recombination and synapsis, and develop into haploid spermatids.
