Interleukin‐37 inhibits desmoglein‐3 endocytosis and keratinocyte dissociation via upregulation of Caveolin‐1 and inhibition of the STAT3 pathway

Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, 2023
Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) is a potentially fatal autoimmune bullous disease primarily caused by acantholysis of keratinocytes attributed to pathogenic desmoglein‐3 (Dsg3) autoantibodies.

Desmoglein 3 anchors telogen hair in the follicle

Journal of Cell Science, 1998
ABSTRACT Little is known about the function of desmosomes in the normal structure and function of hair. Therefore, it was surprising that mice without desmoglein 3 (the autoantigen in pemphigus vulgaris) not only developed mucous membrane and skin lesions like pemphigus patients, but also developed hair loss.

p120-catenin is a novel desmoglein 3 interacting partner: Identification of the p120-catenin association site of desmoglein 3

Experimental Cell Research, 2008
P120-catenin (p120ctn) is an armadillo-repeat protein that directly binds to the intracytoplasmic domains of classical cadherins. p120ctn binding promotes the stabilization of cadherin complexes on the plasma membrane and thus positively regulates the adhesive activity of cadherins.

Pathogenic relevance of antibodies against desmoglein 3 in patients with oral lichen planus

Journal der Deutschen Dermatologischen Gesellschaft = Journal of the German Society of Dermatology : JDDG
Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a T cell driven disorder that significantly impairs patients’ quality of life. Previous reports suggest that both cellular and humoral activities against desmoglein (dsg) 1 and 3 may be involved in OLP pathogenesis.

Desmoglein 3 as a prognostic factor in lung cancer

Human Pathology, 2007
Desmoglein 3 is a desmosomal protein of the cadherin family. Our cDNA expression profile demonstrated that desmoglein 3 was highly expressed in squamous cell carcinoma of the lung but not detected in pulmonary adenocarcinoma or normal lung. To investigate the clinical significance of desmoglein 3 in lung cancer, we surveyed its expression in primary ...

Autoantibodies to desmogleins 1 and 3 in patients with lichen planus

Archives of Dermatological Research, 2017
There is controversy about the role of autoantibodies against desmoglein 1 and 3 (Dsg1 and 3) in the pathogenesis of lichen planus (LP); the authors planned this study to determine the presence of circulating levels of these antibodies in patients with different types of oral LP and to compare that with cutaneous LP and healthy controls.

Plakophilin 1 but not plakophilin 3 regulates desmoglein clustering

Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences, 2019
Plakophilins (Pkp) are desmosomal plaque proteins crucial for desmosomal adhesion and participate in the regulation of desmosomal turnover and signaling. However, direct evidence that Pkps regulate clustering and molecular binding properties of desmosomal cadherins is missing. Here, keratinocytes lacking either Pkp1 or 3 in comparison to wild type (wt)

Oral lichen planus with antibodies to desmogleins 1 and 3

The Journal of Dermatology, 2014
AbstractLichen planus (LP) is a chronic inflammatory disorder involving the skin or mucous membranes. Previous studies have demonstrated that some LP patients showed positive enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for desmoglein (DSG) antibodies. We report a case with intractable painful oral lesions.
