From pemphix to desmogleins

Introduction: Blistering diseases are heterogenous group of diseases, inherited and acquired, known for their symptom - pemphix of blister - for a long time, but well defined only in the second part of 20th century. Methods: First to use name pemphigus was Hyppokrates, but first to apply it for blistering disease was Francois Boissier in 1731. Results:

A 79 year-old male patient presented clinically as a typical case of pemphigus foliaceus. He displayed a seborrhoeic pattern of crusting and erosions with an absence of oral involvement. Surprisingly, a biopsy showed suprabasilar acantholysis and direct immunofluorescence consistent with pemphigus vulgaris.
