Production of Sterility in Mice by Deuterium Oxide [PDF]

open access: yesScience, 1958
Sterility was induced in both male and female mice following the substitution of D/sub 2/O for a part of the drinking water. Doses of 5 to 30% deuterium oxide were administered. C/sub 57/ and Swiss mice were used and both strain and sex differences in response to D/sub 2/O were noted.

Microstructure change and deuterium permeation behavior of ceramic-metal multi-layer coatings after immersion in liquid lithium-lead alloy

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2018
For the establishment of liquid tritium breeding concepts, static lithium-lead corrosion tests for single-layer erbium oxide coatings and erbium oxide-metal multi-layer coatings were carried out, followed by deuterium permeation measurements.

Comparison of body composition analysis methods among centenary women: Seeking simpler methods

open access: yesSAGE Open Medicine, 2019
Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the most commonly used body composition tools in clinical practice, such as anthropometry and electrical bioimpedance, and compare it with deuterium oxide.

Visible-light mediated catalytic asymmetric radical deuteration at non-benzylic positions

open access: yesNature Communications, 2022
Catalytic asymmetric deuterations rely largely on two-electron reaction manifolds and are mostly limited to benzylic positions. Here, a metal-free platform using peptide- or sugar-derived chiral thiols and deuterium oxide allows for asymmetric open-shell

Crystallization and deuterium permeation behaviors of yttrium oxide coating prepared by metal organic decomposition

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2016
Yttrium oxide coatings were fabricated on reduced activation ferritic/martensitic steels by metal organic decomposition with a dip-coating technique, and their deuterium permeation behaviors were investigated.

H/D Exchange Using Hot Heavy Water

open access: yesCHIMIA, 2018
Metal-catalyzed H/D exchange in hydrothermal deuterium oxide, performed in an autoclave using external heating or in a sealed glass tube under microwave irradiation, was shown to be an efficient method for preparing various deuterium-labeled ...

Speed effects in gliding motility assays due to surface passivation, water isotope, and osmotic stress.

open access: yes, 2010
The molecular motor kinesin-1, an ATPase, and the substrate it walks along, microtubules, are vital components of eukaryotic cells. Kinesin converts chemical energy to linear motion as its two motor domains step along microtubules in a process similar to

Aqueous nonelectrolyte solutions. Part XV. The deuterium sulfide - deuterium oxide system and the deuterium sulfide D-hydrate

open access: yes, 1998
The univariant (l1l2g) saturation vapor pressure of liquid deuterium oxide (phase l1) with liquid deuterium sulfide (phase l2) in equilibrium with a gas phase (g) has been measured in a stirred titanium reaction vessel at 19 temperatures from 33.003 to ...
