Pubertal Timing Associates With Cardiometabolic Markers During Puberty and in Young Adulthood

open access: yesActa Paediatrica, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim To study how pubertal timing associates with cardiometabolic measures in puberty and young adulthood. Methods Cardiovascular risk factors, anthropometry and pubertal development were regularly studied in STRIP study subjects until age 26 years.

Differential effects of lipoprotein apheresis by lipidfiltration or dextran sulfate adsorption on lipidomic profile.

open access: yes, 2013
Acute modification of plasma lipidomic profile was assessed by top-down shotgun profiling on a LTQ Orbitrap hybrid mass spectrometer in 14 patients treated with two different apheresis techniques: plasma lipidfiltration (LF) and whole blood dextran ...

Review Article: The Impact of the Gut Microbiome on Ulcerative Colitis Pharmacotherapy

open access: yesAlimentary Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome modulates ulcerative colitis pharmacotherapy through microbial drug metabolism, immune regulation and altered drug bioavailability. Microbial composition influences response to aminosalicylates, corticosteroids, immunomodulators, biologics and small molecules, while microbiome‐targeted therapies show emerging promise.

The nitty‐gritty of vascular permeability in cancer: targeting blood endothelium to control metastases

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Blood vascular permeability is a hallmark of cancer and acts as an active driver of metastatic dissemination. Metastasis accounts for the vast majority of cancer deaths, yet most work has focussed on tumour‐intrinsic traits and angiogenesis, while the specific contribution of endothelial barrier regulation to intravasation and extravasation remains ...

Peripheral κ opioid receptor in pain and inflammation: From molecular signalling and gene expression to drug discovery

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
The κ opioid receptor (κ receptor, KOR) is a G protein‐coupled receptor with well established roles in analgesia and immune modulation. Although historically studied primarily in the central nervous system (CNS), growing evidence indicates that κ signalling in peripheral tissues plays an important role in regulating pain, inflammation and immune ...
