Inhibition of Lipid Signaling Enzyme Diacylglycerol Kinase ϵ Attenuates Mutant Huntingtin Toxicity*

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2012
Background: A chemical screen using a kinase inhibitor library was carried out in a Huntington disease cellular model. Results: A target kinase, diacylglycerol kinase ϵ, when inhibited blocked mutant huntingtin toxicity.

Sulforaphane induces adipocyte browning and promotes glucose and lipid utilization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Scope: Obesity is closely related to the imbalance of white adipose tissue storing excess calories, and brown adipose tissue dissipating energy to produce heat in mammals.

PI5P4K inhibitors: promising opportunities and challenges

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Developing inhibitors is like climbing a steep, challenging mountain. PI5P4K inhibitors hold significant promise for the treatment of cancer, immune disorders, and neurological diseases. However, the path to success is fraught with hurdles, and researchers are therefore required to apply their expertise to overcome critical “checkpoints.” While some ...

Quantum walks and signal transduction pathways [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2012
Signal transduction pathways recover a crucial role in cellular processes: they represent a connection between environmental conditions and cellular reactions. There are many pathways and they all are related to create a network. But how can every protein find the right way more fast than possible? How can it find the right down-streaming kinase in the

Transcriptional landscape of SARS-CoV-2 infection dismantles pathogenic pathways activated by the virus, proposes unique sex-specific differences and predicts tailored therapeutic strategies [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
The emergence of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) disease (COVID-19) has posed a serious threat to global health. As no specific therapeutics are yet available to control disease evolution, more in-depth understanding of the pathogenic mechanisms induced by SARS-CoV-2 will help to characterize new targets for the ...

Second messenger systems underlying amine and peptide actions on cardiac muscle in the horseshoe crab, Limulus polyphemus [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
The biochemical mechanisms by which octopamine, catecholamines and the peptide proctolin exert their actions on Limulus cardiac muscle were investigated.

The G protein‐coupled receptor GPR89A is a novel potential therapeutic target to overcome cisplatin resistance in NSCLC Calu1 cells

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
A genome‐wide CRISPR‐Cas9‐based genetic screen in cisplatin‐resistant NSCLC cells revealed 63 potential candidate genes for overcoming cisplatin resistance, including GPR89A. GPR89A, localised in the Golgi, modulates voltage‐gated anion channel activity and is involved in intracellular pH reduction.

Recent progress on type II diacylglycerol kinases: the physiological functions of diacylglycerol kinase δ, η and κ and their involvement in disease.

open access: yesJournal of Biochemistry (Tokyo), 2012
Diacylglycerol kinase (DGK) phosphorylates diacylglycerol (DAG) to produce phosphatidic acid (PA) and plays an important role in signal transduction by modulating the balance between these signalling lipids.

Ks1, an epithelial cell-specific gene, responds to early signals of head formation in Hydra [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
As a molecular marker for head specification in Hydra, we have cloned an epithelial cell-specific gene which responds to early signals of head formation.
