Diagonal Riccati stability and applications [PDF]

open access: yesLinear Algebra and its Applications, 2016
We consider the question of diagonal Riccati stability for a pair of real matrices A, B. A necessary and sufficient condition for diagonal Riccati stability is derived and applications of this to two distinct cases are presented. We also describe some motivations for this question arising in the theory of generalised Lotka-Volterra systems.

Diagonal Riccati stability and the Hadamard product [PDF]

open access: yesLinear Algebra and its Applications, 2017
We present an extension of a recent characterisation of diagonal Riccati stability and, using this, extend a result of Kraaijevanger on diagonal Lyapunov stability to Riccati stability of time-delay systems. We also describe a class of transformations that preserve the property of being diagonally Riccati stable and apply these two results to provide ...

On the Stability of Uniformly Asymptotically Diagonal Systems [PDF]

open access: yesMathematics of Computation, 1974
In a number of papers ([1], [2]), Delves and Mead have derived some useful (though limited) rate of convergence results which can be applied to variational approximations for the solution of linear positive definite operator equations when the coordinate system is uniformly asymptotically diagonal.

On discrete-time diagonal and D-stability

open access: yesLinear Algebra and its Applications, 1993
Defining the following discrete-time analogues of matrix stability: diagonal, simultaneous, vertex, and \(D\)-stability (the last three in terms of a certain associated polytope of matrices), the authors show that the diagonal stability of any vertex of this polytope implies its simultaneous stability and hence \(D\)-stability of the vertices.

Diagonal Stability of Uncertain Interval Systems

open access: yesProceedings of the 12th International Conference on Informatics in Control, Automation and Robotics, 2015
In this paper we consider the problem of diagonal stability of interval systems. We investigate the existence and evaluation of a common diagonal solution to the Lyapunov and Stein matrix inequalities for third order interval systems. We show that these problems are equivalent to minimax problem with polynomial goal functions. We suggest an interesting

On a theorem of Redheffer concerning diagonal stability

open access: yesLinear Algebra and its Applications, 2009
The authors exploit the Kalman-Yakubovich-Popov lemma to derive necessary and sufficient conditions for a matrix to be diagonally stable. The main results are employed to derive new conditions for the Hurwitz stability for special classes of matrices.

Stability of solutions of linear systems with dominant main diagonal [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the American Mathematical Society, 1972
We establish the asymptotic stability of solutions of a first order linear system of differential equations in which the matrix characterizing the system has a dominating principal diagonal with negative entries; the domination is expressed through the condition that, numerically, each entry in the principal diagonal exceeds the sum of the absolute ...

Characters of diagonal products and Hilbert–Schmidt stability

open access: yesTransactions of the American Mathematical Society
We initiate a quantitative study of Hilbert–Schmidt stability for infinitely presented groups through the novel notion of stability radius growth. We exhibit an uncountable family of Hilbert–Schmidt stable amenable groups with arbitrarily large such growth. In particular, this answers a question of Lubotzky.
