The key-enzyme for the metabolism of diamines in man is diamine oxidase (DAO). Its highest activities are in the intestinal mucosa, localized in the cytoplasm of the mature enterocytes of the small and large bowel. If the gut is affected by inflammation in Crohn's disease macroscopical changes are observed.

Abstract The activity of diamine oxidase (DAO) in amniotic fluid was measured by three different methods. The first two, one colorimetric and the other fluorometric, depended on the coupled peroxidase assay. The other was a radiochemical procedure. The latter proved to be a reliable method, free from interference and linear over a wide range of time ...

In the intestinal mucosa, diamine oxidase (DAO) seems to be involved in a feed-back regulation mechanism for the termination of proliferation. Therefore, we studied the DAO activity in large bowel tumors and in the non-affected mucosa of these patients in comparison with patients having a normal large mucosa. The DAO activity in the tumor tissue itself

AbstractThe postheparin DAO increase in blood plasma has been shown to depend on intact intestines in rat and rabbit. Our findings indicate, however, that sources of mobilizable DAO may be found also outside the small intestine in these species. In the rat, after partial portal stricture for a week.

Acute-on-chronic hepatitis B liver failure (ACHBLF) has high 1-month mortality but it is difficult to predict. This present study was aimed to determine the diagnostic value of plasma diamine oxidase (DAO) in predicting the 1-month mortality of ACHBLF.A total of 106 consecutive newly diagnosed ACHBLF patients were retrospectively collected.

The aim of this study was to assess the effect inhibiting diamine oxidase (DAO) activity on intestinal adaptation after 80% proximal small bowel resection in the rat. Aminoguanidine (AG), a DAO inhibitor, was administered subcutaneously (25 mg kg-1 day-1) to rats for 11 days after small bowel transection (n = 6) or resection (n = 6).

Diamine oxidase (DAO) levels were investigated in pleural and ascitic fluids of 142 patients suffering from neoplastic and non neoplastic diseases. While in serous effusions of non neoplastic origin or of neoplastic origin (but non containing neoplastic cells) DAO levels were similar to serum levels; in the malignant fluids containing cells of ...
