The tryptophan requirement of the rat as affected by niacin and level of dietary nitrogen

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1954
Abstract The effects of niacin and level of dietary nitrogen upon the tryptophan requirement of the rat were investigated. Niacin had a marked tryptophan-sparing effect. With adequate niacin in the diet, the tryptophan required for normal growth at dietary protein levels of 9, 10, or 10.8% of protein were respectively 0.10, 0.12, and 0.13% of the ...

The Effect of a High Level of Dietary Leucine on the Niacin Status of Chicks and Rats

The Journal of Nutrition, 1978
Baby chicks were fed purified diets containing 90 g/kg casein and 100 g/kg gelatin. With low levels of niacin and tryptophan, niacin deficiency resulted: this was not exacerbated by the addition of supplementary leucine (17.4 g/kg). With levels of niacin and tryptophan that supported rapid growth the further addition of supplementary leucine depressed ...

The dietary requirement of juvenile grass shrimp (Penaeus monodon) for niacin

Aquaculture, 1994
A growth experiment was conducted to determine the adequate dietary niacin requirement of juvenile grass shrimp, Penaeus monodon. Purified diets with 7 levels (0, 9.2, 17.4, 26.3, 37.5, 69.8, 104.9 mg/kg diet) of supplemental niacin were fed to P. monodon (mean body weight 0.45±0.09 g) for 8 weeks. Each diet was fed to three replicate groups of shrimp.
