An investigation into differential braking strategies for vehicle stability control

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part D: Journal of Automobile Engineering, 2003
This paper presents a differential braking strategy for vehicle stability control. The controller has been designed using a three-degree-of-freedom (3DOF) yaw plane vehicle model, and a simulation study has been performed using a full non-linear three-dimensional vehicle model.

Stepping on the molecular brake: Slowing down proliferation to allow differentiation

Developmental Cell, 2022
Cellular differentiation can entail changes to the cell cycle. In this issue of Developmental Cell, Han et al. show that the transcription factor MUTE directly activates expression of the cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) inhibitor SIAMESE RELATED 4 (SMR4), thereby slowing down G1 during the transition to stomatal differentiation.

Autonomous Evasive Steering with Differential Braking Backup

2020 20th International Conference on Control, Automation and Systems (ICCAS), 2020
Every today’s vehicle is equipped with four independent brakes. When well-coordinated, these brakes can decelerate the vehicle and at the same time help control its yaw rate. This paper focuses on the use of this feature as a backup for autonomous evasive steering in severe situations.

Programmable differential brake for passive haptics

Robotics and Autonomous Systems, 2010
This paper outlines work on a novel programmable braking system, which is widely applicable to most passive haptic applications and benefits from a simple design, theoretically infinite positional resolution and the ability to generate stiff collision forces, without the need for any explicit force measurements.

Vehicle steering intervention through differential braking

Proceedings of 1995 American Control Conference - ACC'95, 1998
This paper examines the usefulness of a brake steer system (BSS) which uses differential brake forces for steering intervention in the context of Intelligent Transportation Systems. The resulting moment on the vehicle affects yaw rate and lateral position, thereby providing a limited steering function.

Integrated Steering and Differential Braking for Emergency Collision Avoidance in Autonomous Vehicles

IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, 2021
Controlling the lateral dynamics of an autonomous vehicle confronting a sudden obstacle requires optimal use of tires’ force capacities. In these situations, autonomous steering may not be able to respond fast enough to prevent collision or instability.

Differential System of Crane Braking

2019
The brake system of the crane is one of the main systems responsible for its safety. Due to the presence of a number of factors, such as unequal braking force of the brake spring, uneven wearout of the brake pads, and the presence of pollutants, the friction force is variable and varies widely.
