Targeted keratin repair: A plant‐based approach to hair strength and surface restoration

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, EarlyView.
Application of Avena strigosa seed extract may reinforce keratin bonding, restoring hair fibre integrity by promoting intramolecular interactions at damaged sites of keratin proteins. Abstract Objective Chemical and thermal stress disrupts the intramolecular and intermolecular interactions that stabilize hair keratin, leading to structural degradation ...

Quaternary structures of Streptococcus pneumoniae nucleoside diphosphate kinase: From hexamers to supramolecular assemblies

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract The nucleoside diphosphate kinase (NDK) is a key enzyme that controls the balance of nucleotide pools in all living organisms. Beyond this fundamental role, NDKs exert pleiotropic effects in many cellular processes, including cell development, signal transduction, differentiation, tumor metastasis, and gene expression. The quaternary structure

The plasma nanoDSF denaturation profiles predict the presence of breast cancer

open access: yesJournal of Translational Medicine
Background Breast cancer (BC) is a major problem of public health in western countries. The long-term survival improved thanks to therapeutic progresses and mass screening. Mass screening is based on mammography but displays limitations.

Total synthesis and structural characterization of a novel protein scaffold from the snail Biomphalaria glabrata

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Disulfide‐rich miniproteins constitute compact and highly stable scaffolds of growing interest for molecular and structural engineering. Schistosomins are ~80‐residue proteins conserved across gastropods that form a long‐standing orphan family whose structure and biological roles have remained unknown.

Resolving hot spots in the C-terminal dimerization domain that determine the stability of the molecular chaperone Hsp90.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Human heat shock protein of 90 kDa (hHsp90) is a homodimer that has an essential role in facilitating malignant transformation at the molecular level. Inhibiting hHsp90 function is a validated approach for treating different types of tumors.

Facile, high‐throughput protein purification enabled by high‐efficiency protease elution

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract While advances in artificial intelligence have made protein design widely accessible, protein production and characterization remain a bottleneck. Protease‐cleavable affinity tags are commonly used to improve yield and purity of recombinant proteins, but tag removal adds labor and complexity.

The C117D oxidation mimic reveals the monomeric structure of SARS‐CoV‐2 main protease

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract The SARS‐CoV‐2 main protease (Mpro) is essential for viral replication and functions as a homodimer, with dimerization being critical for catalytic activity. Mpro contains an unusually high number of cysteine residues. Among these, C117 and the catalytic nucleophile C145 can form a reversible disulfide bond under oxidative conditions.

A cryptic allosteric pocket shapes isoform‐selective inhibition of human malic enzymes

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Malic enzymes (ME) regulate central carbon metabolism and cellular redox balance, and the mitochondrial isoform ME2 is frequently upregulated in aggressive cancers to support metabolic flexibility and stress resistance. Isoform‐selective inhibition has remained out of reach because the catalytic machinery is essentially invariant across the ...

α-Amylase-Mediated Antibiotic Degradation and Sequestration in Pseudomonas aeruginosa Biofilm Therapy

open access: yesAntibiotics
Background: As of 2022, 80% of all documented microbial infections are biofilm-associated: communities of microorganisms adhered to a surface and enclosed in a complex extracellular polymeric substance (EPS). The EPS acts as a physical barrier protecting

AscF in the mycobacterial CIII–CIV supercomplex lacks metal and nucleotide binding but links malate oxidation to respiration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, Volume 600, Issue 15, Page 2129-2142, August 2026.
The mycobacterial CIII‐CIV respiratory supercomplex is an obligate assembly, encompassing several subunits of unknown functions. We have characterized the intracellular subunit AscF, and show that it is unlikely to be a sensor for metals or nucleotides, but is required for growth on nonfermentable energy sources, and likely works as an adapter for ...
