Clinical Use of Digitalis Glycosides
Digitalis glycosides continue to place high on the list of prescribed drugs. Digoxin is 8th on prescriptions written in the United States in 1980, digitoxin 16th, and digitalis leaf 23rd. There is little doubt that most physicians continue to believe these drugs are useful.

Predicting and Manipulating Cardiac Drug Inactivation by the Human Gut Bacterium Eggerthella lenta [PDF]
Despite numerous examples of the effects of the human gastrointestinal microbiome on drug efficacy and toxicity, there is often an incomplete understanding of the underlying mechanisms. Here, we dissect the inactivation of the cardiac drug digoxin by the

Characterisation of Na/K-ATPase, its isoforms, and the inotropic response to ouabain in isolated failing human hearts [PDF]
Objective: The aim was to determine whether failing human hearts have increased sensitivity to the inotropic and toxic effects of ouabain, and to examine alterations in Na/K-ATPase that might explain the observed higher ouabain sensitivity.

The Chemical Estimation of Digitalis and Strophanthus Glycosides
Abstract Certain glycosides of plant origin possess valuable cardiotonic properties. The Families Scrophulariaceae and Apocynaceae are the plant orders which contain most members furnishing drugs of therapeutic value. If in this connection the toad poisons are included, the heart-active substances from a chemical viewpoint may be ...

The Cardiac Glycosides Digitoxin, Digoxin and Ouabain Induce a Potent Inhibition of Glycolysis in Lung Cancer Cells [PDF]
Cardiac glycosides are promising anticancer drugs. We have recently shown that the cardiac glycosides digitoxin, digoxin and ouabain induce selective killing of lung cancer cells, and that the cytotoxicity of digitoxin against these cells occurs at ...
