A comparison of procedures to determine free fatty acids in rat heart

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1978
The level of free fatty acids in intact tissues has been found to be low but is known to rise in proportion to the extent of autolysis. Therefore, the high levels of free fatty acid reported in the cardiac lipids of rats fed rapeseed oil were ...

Comparison of 19F and 1H NMR spectroscopy with conventional methods for the detection of extra virgin olive oil adulteration

open access: yesGrasas y Aceites, 2018
This paper reports the comparison of determination methods for extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) adulteration with two kinds of oils, refined olive oil (ROO) and soybean oil by 19FNMR, 1H NMR and chemical titration.

Influence of solvent selection and extraction temperature on yield and composition of lipids extracted from spent coffee grounds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Spent coffee grounds (SCG) are a potentially sustainable source of C16-C18 triglycerides. This study investigates known solvent extraction technologies with a wide range of solvents for lipid extraction from SCGs, and determines the effect of solvent ...

Biosynthesis of galactolipids by enzyme preparations from spinach leaves

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1969
The pH optimum for galactolipid synthesis from UDP-galactose by spinach chloroplasts is 7.2 in Tris-HCl or phosphate buffer. The products include sterol glycosides, trigalactosyl diglyceride (tentatively identified), digalactosyl diglyceride, and ...

On-line monitoring of the transesterification reaction carried out in microreactors using near infrared spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Biodiesel can be produced from vegetable oils, animal fats, and waste cooking oils by transesterification with ethanol (also called ethanolysis) in order to substitute fossil fuels.

Detection and isolation of minor lipid constituents

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1967
The use of thick layers of adsorbent for the concentration and subsequent isolation of neutral lipid constituents is described. Lipids not perceptible by conventional methods are demonstrated in concentrates of bovine heart extracts and identified as ...

The diglyceride kinase of rat cerebral cortex [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Journal, 1971
1. Formation of phosphatidic acid by diglyceride kinase (EC 2.7.1.-) in the presence of ATP and Mg2+ was shown in a homogenate and subcellular fractions of rat cerebral cortex. 2. The kinase was activated by Mg2+. Ca2+ activated to a smaller extent but was inhibitory in the presence of optimum concentration of Mg2+.

Complete separation of lipid classes on a single thin-layer plate

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1966
A double-development procedure employing first a polar and then a nonpolar solvent system is described for the complete separation by thin-layer chromatography of the main lipid classes encountered in natural lipids.
