Development and Evaluation of Controlled-Release Diltiazem HCl Microparticles Using Cross-Linked Poly(Vinyl Alcohol)

Drug Development and Industrial Pharmacy, 1997
AbstractHydrogels of cross-linked poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) were developed and their properties were evaluated as a controlled-release oral solid dosage form. The concentration of glutaraldehyde involved in cross-linking is directly proportional to the compactness of the three-dimensional networks of the cross-linked PVA.

Modulation of Drug Release Rate of Diltiazem–HCl from Hydrogel Matrices of Succinic Acid-Treated Ispaghula Husk

Pharmaceutical Development and Technology, 2000
The feasibility of using succinic acid-treated ispaghula husk in matrix-based tablets of diltiazem-HCl was investigated. The sample prepared using 4:1 weight ratio of ispaghula husk to succinic acid showed improved swelling and gelling. A 3(2) factorial design was employed to investigate the effect of amount of succinic acid-treated ispaghula husk and ...

Sustained release of diltiazem HCl tableted after co-spray drying and physical mixing with PVAc and PVP

Drug Development and Industrial Pharmacy, 2015
In this work, aqueous diltiazem HCl and polyvinyl-pyrrolidone (PVP) solutions were mixed with Kollicoat SR 30D and spray dried to microparticles of different drug:excipient ratio and PVP content. Co-spray dried products and physical mixtures of drug, Kollidon SR and PVP were tableted.

Blood pressure control with diltiazem XR, a novel extended-release formulation of diltiazem HCl, in mature and elderly hypertensive patients.

Clinical therapeutics, 1994
The safety and efficacy of an extended-release form of diltiazem HCl (diltiazem XR) in patients 55 years or older with mild-to-moderate essential hypertension were examined in a multi-center, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, parallel-group study involving 350 patients with supine diastolic blood pressure (DBP) between 95 mm Hg and 114 mm ...

Diltiazem HCl suppresses porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus infection in susceptible cells and in swine

Veterinary Microbiology
Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) is a pathogen for swine, resulting in substantial economic losses to the swine industry. However, there has been little success in developing effective vaccines or drugs for PRRSV control. In the present study, we discovered that Diltiazem HCl, an inhibitor of L-type Ca2+ channel, effectively ...

Preparation of diltiazem HCl-modified release formulation using cation-exchange resin as a single excipient

Pharmaceutical Development and Technology
Modified released formulations of diltiazem were previously prepared using cation-exchange resins. However, multiple excipients were required to achieve the appropriate release rate. It was of interest to prepare a modified release dosage form of diltiazem using drug-resin complex alone.Adsorption experiments conducted using a rotating bottle apparatus.

A New Extended‐Release Formulation of Diltiazem HCl for the Treatment of Mild‐to‐Moderate Hypertension

The Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, 1993
Calcium‐channel blockers are a safe and effective treatment modality and have been used extensively in the treatment of angina and hypertension. Dilacor™ XR capsules, a new extended‐release formulation of diltiazem, has been developed for the treatment of hypertension. Dilacor XR (Rhône‐Poulenc Rorer Pharmaceuticals Inc., Collegeville, PA) uses a novel

The Gastrointestinal Transit and Systemic Absorption of Diltiazem HCL from a Modified Release Dosage Form

1993
The primary means of administration for the vast majority of therapeutic agents is via the oral route. Many of these oral dosage forms are designed to provide a rapid disintegration in the stomach, however, over the last 5–6 years there has been a growing trend within the pharmaceutical industry to develop complex pharmaceutical dosage forms designed ...
