Digital twins to accelerate target identification and drug development for immune‐mediated disorders

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Digital twins integrate patient‐derived molecular and clinical data into personalised computational models that simulate disease mechanisms. They enable rapid identification and validation of therapeutic targets, prediction of drug responses, and prioritisation of candidate interventions.

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

Comparison of Pressure and Atmospheric Steaming Processes and Their Effects on Selected Properties of Beech Wood (Fagus sylvatica L.)

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of hydrothermal treatment (different steaming process) conditions, specifically temperature, pressure, and steaming time on selected physical properties of beech wood (Fagus sylvatica L.), such as ...

Stability in a two-dimensional combustion model

open access: yesInterfaces and Free Boundaries, Mathematical Analysis, Computation and Applications, 2004
Summary: We study the stability of a planar travelling wave in the two-dimensional nearly equidiffusional flame combustion model when the reduced Lewis number is equal to zero. The functional analytic setting consists of spaces of suitably exponentially weighted Hölder continuous functions.

Why human connection is the true metric of research success

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human‐centred mentorship can be shaped by mentor attributes, actions, intrinsic drive and career ambition. Drawing on reflections across Singapore and France, as well as workshop insights from FEBS‐IUBMB ENABLE 2024, this article shows that human‐centred mentorship creates the conditions for sustainable growth, well‐being and retention in research ...

Osage Orange, Honey Locust and Black Locust Seed Meal Adhesives Employed to Fabricate Composite Wood Panels

open access: yesFibers, 2019
Seed meal of three trees common to the Midwest region of the USA (Honey locust, Gleditsia triacanthos L., family Fabaceae), Osage orange (Maclura pomifera (Raf.) Schneid., family Moraceae) and Black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia L., family Fabaceae) were ...

Pharmacological inhibition of the PERK pathway modulates hepatocellular carcinoma growth and immune signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Pharmacological inhibition of PERK in a DEN‐induced mouse model of liver cancer does not reduce tumor burden but alters cellular stress signaling. Despite blocking PERK activity, downstream stress responses, including CHOP expression, remain active, suggesting compensatory mechanisms within the unfolded protein response that may influence tumor ...

SIMULATION-BASED ANALYSIS FOR OPTIMIZING MOLD DESIGN OF PLASTIC HARDNESS TEST SPECIMENS USING KEY PARAMETERS

open access: yesRekayasa Mesin
This study aims to compare the performance of two injection molding designs—Design A and Design B—for producing plastic hardness test specimens. Design A showed a fill time of 1.03 s and cooling quality covering 84.2% of the part, compared to 1.06 s and ...
