3-[1-(3-Hydroxybenzyl)-1H-benzimidazol-2-yl]phenol dimethyl sulfoxide monosolvate

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E, 2012
Crystals of the title compound were obtained as a 1:1 dimethyl sulfoxide solvate, C20H16N2O2·C2H6O. The molecular conformation of the organic molecule is similar to that in the previously reported unsolvated structure [Eltayeb et al.

BMP antagonist CHRDL2 enhances the cancer stem‐cell phenotype and increases chemotherapy resistance in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Overexpression of CHRDL2 in colon cancer cells makes them more stem‐like and resistant to chemo‐ and radiotherapy. CHRDL2‐high cells have upregulation of the WNT pathway, genes involved in the DNA damage response (DDR) pathway and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT). This leads to quicker repair of damaged DNA and more cell migration.

2-(5-Bromo-1H-indol-3-yl)-4-(4-bromophenyl)-5-(4-chlorobenzoyl)-1H-pyrrole-3-carbonitrile dimethyl sulfoxide monosolvate

open access: yesIUCrData, 2016
In the title solvated compound, C26H14Br2ClN3O·C2H6OS, the indole ring is inclined to the central pyrrole ring by 25.7 (2)°. The chlorobenzene ring and the bromobenzene rings subtend dihedral angles of 56.5 (2) and 53.4 (2)°, respectively, with the ...

A kinetic and theoretical study of the borate catalysed reactions of hydrogen peroxide: the role of dioxaborirane as the catalytic intermediate for a wide range of substrates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Our recent work has provided new insights into the equilibria and species that exist in aqueous solution at different pHs for the boric acid – hydrogen peroxide system, and the role of these species in oxidation reactions. Most recently, (M. C.

Inhibition of methionine sulfoxide reduction by dimethyl sulfoxide

open access: yesBMB Reports, 2009
Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) is widely used in chemistry and biology as a solvent and as a cryoprotectant. It is also used as a pharmaceutical agent for the treatment of interstitial cystitis and rheumatoid arthritis. Previous reports described DMSO as being reduced by methionine-S-sulfoxide reductase (MsrA).

EMT‐associated bias in the Parsortix® system observed with pancreatic cancer cell lines

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The Parsortix® system was tested for CTC enrichment using pancreatic cancer cell lines with different EMT phenotypes. Spike‐in experiments showed lower recovery of mesenchymal‐like cells. This was confirmed with an EMT‐inducible breast cancer cell line.

1-Ethyl-4′-(1H-indol-3-ylcarbonyl)-1′-methyl-2,2′′-dioxodispiro[indoline-3,2′-pyrrolidine-3′,3′′-indoline]-4′-carbonitrile dimethyl sulfoxide monosolvate

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E, 2013
In the title compound, C31H25N5O3·C2H6OS, the three indole/indoline units are all essentially planar with maximum deviations of 0.0172 (3), 0.053 (2) and 0.07 (2) Å.

Evaluation and modification of tumor cell isolation techniques from malignant effusions for rapid drug sensitivity testing

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Non‐small cell lung cancer targeted treatment is limited to a few known genetic alterations, with few alternatives in advanced treatment lines. To direct treatment decisions by drug sensitivity testing (DST), this study compared several methods for tumor cell isolation from malignant effusions, pointing to repeated CD45+ cell depletion for effective ...
