Regulation of dimethylnitrosamine metabolism by androgenic hormones
Environmental Mutagenesis, 1980AbstractHormonal regulation of dimethylnitrosamine (DMN) metabolism by mouse kidney microsomes was investigated using an in vitro mutagenesis system that detects bioactive metabolites of this procarcinogen by measuring reverse mutation in Salmonella typhimurium his auxotrophs.

Hepatotoxicity of dimethylnitrosamine in cats and lizards
Toxicology Letters, 1981The hepatotoxic effects of the oral administration of a single dose of 50 mg dimethylnitrosamine (DMN)/kg and daily doses of 5 mg and 1 mg/kg, respectively, to cats and lizards were studied by light microscopy. Centrilobular necrosis was the main alteration detected in the liver of cats as in other animal species studied. The lizards, however, appeared

Pathology of dimethylnitrosamine poisoning in pekin ducklings
Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology, 1966Summary Pekin ducklings were fed a purified diet containing dimethylnitrosamine at levels of 0.02% and 0.0175%. The level of 0.02% was acutely toxic, weight gains were significantly reduced, and feeding was discontinued after 3 weeks. Abdominal distention was observed in some ducks fed 0.0175% dimethylnitrosamine for 4 weeks. A nonhemorrhagic ascites

Influence of lead nitrate oń dimethylnitrosamine intoxication
Chemico-Biological Interactions, 1976The effect of lead nitrate, an inhibitor of the hepatic drug-metabolizing enzyme system upon the acute, hepatotoxicity of dimethylnitrosamine (DMN) was studied. Lead pretreatment significantly prevented polysomal disaggregation induced by the nitrosamine. Cell necrosis, evaluated morphologically and by the release of serum glutamic-pyruvic transaminase

Dimethylnitrosamine adducts excreted in rat urine
Chemico-Biological Interactions, 1982Rats were injected with [14C]dimethylnitrosamine and urine was collected up to 5 days after the injection. Urine samples were concentrated and subjected to Sephadex G-10 chromatography. Three peaks of radioactivity (I-III, in the order of elution) were observed for all injection times.

Induction of microsomal dimethylnitrosamine demethylase by pyrazole
Biochemical Pharmacology, 1982Pyrazole, a potent inhibitor of alcohol dehydrogenase, was found to be a potent inducer of the activity of low Km dimethylnitrosamine demethylase (DMN-d). One injection of pyrazole (200 mg/kg body wt) to weanling Wistar rats changed the microsomal DMN demethylase activity by 1.7, 1.9 and 2.5 times the control values at 6, 12 and 24 hr after the ...

Suppression of dimethylnitrosamine mutagenicity by sodium nitrite
Mutation Research/Fundamental and Molecular Mechanisms of Mutagenesis, 1974Summary Doses of NaNO2 as low as 25 mg/kg were found to lower the frequency of observed mutants produced by dimethy1nitrosamine (DMN) in S. typhimurium G46 in the host-mediated assay. The degree of reduction of mutant frequency (MIT) was greatest when NaNO2 administration preceded DNIN treatment by 45 min.

Liver apoptosis after dimethylnitrosamine administration in shrews
Experimental and Toxicologic Pathology, 1996Female house musk shrews (Suncus murinus, Insectivora) were given a single i.p. dose of 30 mg/kg dimethylnitrosamine (DMN) at 8 weeks of age which was lethal 36 to 48 hrs after dosing. Liver tissues were collected from shrews killed 3, 6, 16, 24 and 36 hrs after treatment, and the sequential development of the lesions was characterized.

Oxidative metabolism of dimethylnitrosamine: Correlation with toxicity
Journal of Toxicology and Environmental Health, 1978The relationship between oxidative metabolism and acute toxicity of dimethylnitrosamine (DMN) was examined in neonatal and adult rats to take advantage of developmental changes in activity of the metabolizing enzymes. The objective was to determine the extent to which CO2 production from DMN is correlated with toxicity.

Dimethylnitrosamine levels in untreated herring meals
Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, 1976AbstractAn investigation has been conducted to determine the levels of dimethylnitrosamine in 13 samples of Canadian herring meals taken from the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. The concentration of dimethylnitrosamine found in these meals, which had not been treated with nitrate or nitrite varied between 0.15 and 1.0 parts/106.
