Hormonal effects on diosgenin biosynthesis and growth in Dioscorea deltoidea tissue cultures
Phytochemistry, 1976Abstract Analysis of Dioscorea deltoidea tissue cultures grown in the presence of 2,4-D, indole-3-butyric acid, isopentenyladenine, benzyladenine and GA singly and in combination showed that the medium with 2,4-D most consistently favored diosgenin production. GA and high benzyladenine concentrations were toxic.

Abstract By selecting small cell aggregates, several cell lines of Dioscorea with different characteristics were established: colour, size of cell aggregates, growth, accumulation of carotenoids, diosgenin and phytosterols. The white-coloured lines accumulate larger amounts of diosgenin than the unselected cell suspension and the cream-coloured ...

Trillium govanianum Wall. ex D. Don, popularly known as Nagchhatri, is an important medicinal plant of northwestern Himalayas. No data exist on molecular characteristics of diosgenin biosynthesis, the main chemical component of T. govanianum. HPLC analysis revealed diosgenin content of 2.4 and 0.7% in hydrolyzed rhizome extracts of Chamba and Lahaul ...

22R‐ but not 22S‐hydroxycholesterol is recruited for diosgenin biosynthesis
The Plant Journal, 2021SUMMARYDiosgenin is an important compound in the pharmaceutical industry and it is biosynthesized in several eudicot and monocot species, herein represented by fenugreek (a eudicot), and Dioscorea zingiberensis (a monocot). Formation of diosgenin can be achieved by the early C22,16‐oxidations of cholesterol followed by a late C26‐oxidation.

[Pathway design and key enzyme analysis of diosgenin biosynthesis].
Sheng wu gong cheng xue bao = Chinese journal of biotechnology, 2021As a naturally occurring steroid sapogenin, diosgenin acts as the precursor of hundreds of steroid medicines, and thereby has important medicinal value. Currently, industrial production of diosgenin relies primarily on chemical extraction from plant materials.

Dioscorea plants produce pharmaceutical diosgenin, which usually exists in plants in the form of saponins and has been a starting material for the production of steroids over seven decades. The first step of steroidal saponin biosynthesis from the corresponding aglycone is glycosylation by 3-O-sterol glycosyltransferase (S3GT), transferring the ...
