Observations of a possible new soft gamma repeater, SGR1801-23 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We report on two observations of a soft bursting source in 1997 June, whose time histories and energy spectra are consistent with those of the soft gamma repeaters. The source can only be localized to an ~3.8 degree long error box in the direction of the Galactic center, whose area is ~ 80 sq. arcmin.

The power of microRNA regulation—insights into immunity and metabolism

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
MicroRNAs are emerging as crucial regulators at the intersection of metabolism and immunity. This review examines how miRNAs coordinate glucose and lipid metabolism while simultaneously modulating T‐cell development and immune responses. Moreover, it highlights how cutting‐edge artificial intelligence applications can identify miRNA biomarkers ...

A spectrum-of-spectrum filtering method to extract direct and multipath arrivals from simulations and measurements

open access: yesMethodsX, 2023
In measurements and numerical modelling of wave propagation, undesired interference between direct and multipath arrivals can be reduced using Fourier-based signal processing methods.

Rapid Molecular Genetic Subtyping of Serotype M1 Group A Streptococcus Strains

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 1999
Serotype M1 group A Streptococcus, the most common cause of invasive disease in many case series, generally have resisted extensive molecular subtyping by standard techniques (e.g., multilocus enzyme electrophoresis, pulsed-field gel electrophoresis). We

Periodic Single-Pass Instruction Sequences [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A program is a finite piece of data that produces a (possibly infinite) sequence of primitive instructions. From scratch we develop a linear notation for sequential, imperative programs, using a familiar class of primitive instructions and so-called ...

Identification of novel small molecule inhibitors of ETS transcription factors

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
ETS transcription factors play an essential role in tumourigenesis and are indispensable for sprouting angiogenesis, a hallmark of cancer, which fuels tumour expansion and dissemination. Thus, targeting ETS transcription factor function could represent an effective, multifaceted strategy to block tumour growth. The evolutionarily conserved E‐Twenty‐Six

FGF-1 induces expression of LXRα and production of 25-hydroxycholesterol to upregulate the apoE gene in rat astrocytes

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2009
Fibroblast growth factor 1 (FGF-1) enhances apolipoprotein E (apoE) expression and apoE-HDL biogenesis in autocrine fashion in astrocytes (Ito, J., Y. Nagayasu, R. Lu, A. Kheirollah, M. Hayashi, and S. Yokoyama.

Leading role of TBP in the Establishment of Complexity in Eukaryotic Transcription Initiation Systems

open access: yesCell Reports, 2017
While both archaeal and eukaryotic transcription initiation systems utilize TBP (TATA box-binding protein) and TFIIB (transcription factor IIB), eukaryotic systems include larger numbers of initiation factors.

Social context prevents heat hormetic effects against mutagens during fish development

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study shows that sublethal heat stress protects fish embryos against ultraviolet radiation, a concept known as ‘hormesis’. However, chemical stress transmission between fish embryos negates this protective effect. By providing evidence for the mechanistic molecular basis of heat stress hormesis and interindividual stress communication, this study ...

Transient expression analysis of allelic variants of a VNTR in the dopamine transporter gene (DAT1)

open access: yesBMC Genetics, 2005
Background The 10-repeat allele of a variable number tandem repeat (VNTR) polymorphism in the 3'-untranslated region of the dopamine transporter gene (DAT1) has been associated with a range of psychiatric phenotypes, most notably attention-deficit ...
