Two Organic Diselenides: Dimesityl Diselenide and Bis(2,4,6-triisopropylphenyl) Diselenide

The organic diselenides dimesityl diselenide [C 18 H 22 -Se 2 , (I)] and bis(2,4,6-triisopropylphenyl) diselenide [C 30 H 46 Se 2 , (II)] display normal diselenide geometries: Se-Se bond lengths are 2.3341(6) in (I) and 2.3389 (6) A in (II), and the absolute C-Se-Se-C torsion angles are 83.96 (12) in (I) and 73.38 (16)° in (II).

Selenocyanates possess an extremely high propensity to produce diselenides on reaction with selenols or selenolates. This is effectively observed when one molar equivalent of metal hydride or lithium triethyl borohydride or one fourth molar equivalent of metal borohydrides are reacted with organic selenocyanates.

A Convenient Synthesis of 4,4′-Dimethylaminodiphenyl Diselenide and 4,4′-Dinitrodiphenyl Diselenide

Abstract A simple, rapid and efficient synthesis of 4,4′-dimethylamino-diphenyl diselenide 1 and 4,4′-dinitrodiphenyl diselenide 2 is described. The method consists of the reductive cleavage of the Se-CN linkage in the corresponding aryl selenocyanates by sodium borohydride followed by air oxidation of the resulting seleno-lates.

Synthesis of unsymmetrical glycosyl diselenides by the treatment of symmetrical diselenides with glycosyl selenocyanates

Lithium diselenide in aprotic medium - a convenient reagent for synthesis of organic diselenides

Abstract The reduction of selenium with lithium in THF in the presence of diphenylacetylene as a catalyst afforded lithium diselenide, which reacted with electrophiles giving alkyl or aryl diselenides 1 - 3 and selenides 4 , as by-products. The useful method for preparation of diselenides based on this reaction was elaborated.

On the polymorphism of niobium diselenide

Abstract Four polymorphe of niobium diselenide have been found, viz. , 1 s -NbSe 2 , stable above 980 °C, 4 s (d)-NbSe 2 , stable between 980° and 910 °C, and the 2 s (a)- and 4 s (a)-forms stable at lower temperatures; 4 s (a)-NbSe 2 is somewhat richer in selenium than the 2 s (a)-form.
