Macrophage Changes and High‐Throughput Sequencing in Aging Mouse Intervertebral Disks

open access: yesJOR SPINE, Volume 8, Issue 2, June 2025.
We aimed to evaluate caudal IVD specimens from adult and older mice to study M0, M1, and M2 macrophage polarization and their aging‐related secretory phenotypes. Additionally, we aimed to assess macrophage polarization in aged disks, along with the differential expression of genes related to aging, and the hub genes involved in aging.

In Vitro Validation of Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) as an Effective Countermeasure Against Inflammatory‐Mediated Intervertebral Disc Degeneration

open access: yesJOR SPINE, Volume 8, Issue 2, June 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration (IDD) is the main contributor to chronic low back pain (LBP), the leading cause of disability worldwide, with a significant impact on the quality of life and health of common people. The etiology of IDD is still unclear, but it has been largely demonstrated the crucial role of inflammation and ...

The Role of Adipokines in Spinal Disease: A Narrative Review

open access: yesJOR SPINE, Volume 8, Issue 2, June 2025.
Adipokines, bioactive molecules secreted by adipose tissue, play a key role in both physiological regulation and disease pathogenesis. While their involvement in various organ systems is well documented, their role in spinal pathology remains underexplored.

Preascitic Sodium Retention in Cirrhosis: A Role for Disregulated Proteolysis by Proprotein Convertases?

open access: yesLiver International Communications, Volume 6, Issue 2, June 2025.
ABSTRACT Loss of effective arterial blood volume, secondary hyperaldosteronism, adrenergic activation and nonosmotic hypersecretion of vasopressin induce sodium and water retention in cirrhotic patients with ascites. The mechanisms of sodium retention that precede ascites formation remain elusive.

Glycoprotein Ibα‐Dependent Platelet Activation is Essential for Tumor Cell–Platelet Interaction and Experimental Metastasis

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 6, Issue 6, June 2025.
ABSTRACT Metastasis is the main cause of cancer‐related deaths and the biggest challenge in improving cancer prognosis. Platelet–tumor cell aggregates are a prerequisite for hematogenous metastasis. However, the internal relation and molecular mechanism of platelets and their receptor glycoprotein (GP) Ibα in platelet–tumor cell interaction and ...
