Accretion into black holes with magnetic fields, and relativistic jets

open access: yes, 2011
We discuss the problem of the formation of a large-scale magnetic field in the accretion disks around black holes, taking into account the non-uniform vertical structure of the disk.

Non-Steady State Accretion Disks in X-Ray Novae: Outburst Models for Nova Monocerotis 1975 and Nova Muscae 1991

open access: yes, 2002
We fit outbursts of two X-ray novae (Nova Monocerotis 1975=A0620-00 and Nova Muscae GS 1991=1124-683) using a time-dependent accretion disk model. The model is based on a new solution for a diffusion-type equation for the non-steady-state accretion and ...

Ampicillin disk diffusion susceptibility testing of Haemophilus influenzae

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 1987
A total of 114 strains of Haemophilus influenza were characterized with respect to beta-lactamase production and ampicillin MIC. Of this total, 41 strains produced a TEM-type beta-lactamase, and ampicillin MICs for these strains were greater than or equal to 2.0 microgram/ml.

Creep Properties and Deformation Mechanism of Additively Manufactured NiAl‐CrMo Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additively manufactured NiAl‐CrMo composites contain numerous interfaces and cell boundaries that control their creep response. At 700°C under high applied stress, creep is dominated by dislocation‐controlled power‐law mechanisms. At 800°C–900°C and lower stresses, creep is primarily diffusion‐controlled along cell boundaries.

Prevalence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus isolated from Moheb Hospital and Miladphenotypic and molecular methods

open access: yesMajallah-i Dānishgāh-i ’Ulūm-i Pizishkī-i Shahīd Ṣadūqī Yazd, 2015
Introduction: S. aureus, the second most common cause of nosocomial infections, is regarded as an important factor in the severe infections of the community. Methicillin-resistant strains of this bacterium involve a major pathogen which can cause disease

Direct Metal Deposition of Graphene–Ti28Nb35.4Zr Matrix Composites With Enhanced Mechanical, Corrosion, and Biocompatibility Properties for Bone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.

In Situ Micromechanical Study of Bimodal γ′–γ″ Precipitate Assemblies in Ni–Cr–Al–Nb Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A Ni–Cr–Al–Nb superalloy with a bimodal γ′–γ″ precipitate distribution is developed. Composite precipitate assemblies form through heterogeneous nucleation, effectively impeding dislocation motion. Micropillar compression reveals high strength at room and elevated temperatures, governed by precipitate shearing, with coupled faulting mechanisms ...

Short term prediction of E greater than or equal to 10 MeV proton fluxes from solar flares [PDF]

open access: yes, 1972
Both the anisotropic and isotropic diffusion theories can be used to extrapolate proton fluxes for E greater than or equal to 10 meV for over 50% of the particle events. The isotropic diffusion theory uses a diffusion coefficient: D = Mr sup beta. It was

Exploring Dipolar Dynamics and Ionic Transport in Metal‐Organic Frameworks: Experimental and Theoretical Insights

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, the interplay of dipolar dynamics and ionic charge transport in MOF compounds is investigated. Synthesizing the novel structure CFA‐25 with integrated freely rotating dipolar groups, local and macroscopic effects, including interactions with Cs cations are explored.
