Analysis of acoustic emission during the melting of embedded indium particles in an aluminum matrix: a study of plastic strain accommodation during phase transformation

open access: yes, 2012
Acoustic emission is used here to study melting and solidification of embedded indium particles in the size range of 0.2 to 3 um in diameter and to show that dislocation generation occurs in the aluminum matrix to accommodate a 2.5% volume change.

High dislocation density of tin induced by electric current

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2015
A dislocation density of as high as 1017 /m2 in a tin strip, as revealed by high resolution transmission electron microscope, was induced by current stressing at 6.5 x 103 A/ cm2. The dislocations exist in terms of dislocation line, dislocation loop, and

TEM Observation of Loops Decorating Dislocations and Resulting Source Hardening of Neutron-Irradiated Fe-Cr Alloys

open access: yesMetals, 2020
Several open issues remain concerning the quantitative understanding of irradiation hardening in high-Cr steels. One of these issues is addressed here by correlating yield points that are observed in stress-strain curves with dislocation decoration ...

Trapping and de-trapping behavior of hydrogen isotopes in <100> interstitial dislocation loops of tungsten

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
In fusion reactors, plasma-facing materials (PFMs) work under a complex irradiation environment. A lot of irradiation defects will be generated in tungsten (W), primary candidate for PFMs, leading to a substantial amount of hydrogen fuel retention. Among

An Exactly Solvable Phase-Field Theory of Dislocation Dynamics, Strain Hardening and Hysteresis in Ductile Single Crystals

open access: yes, 2001
An exactly solvable phase-field theory of dislocation dynamics, strain hardening and hysteresis in ductile single crystals is developed. The theory accounts for: an arbitrary number and arrangement of dislocation lines over a slip plane; the long-range ...

Dislocations in uniaxial lamellar phases of liquid crystals, polymers and amphiphilic systems

open access: yes, 1995
Dislocations in soft condensed matter systems such as lamellar systems of polymers, liquid crystals and ternary mixtures of oil, water and surfactant (amphiphilic systems) are described in the framework of continuum elastic theory.
