Spin-selective localization of correlated lattice fermions [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. B 92, 094202 (2015), 2015
The interplay between local, repulsive interactions and disorder acting only on one spin orientation of lattice fermions ("spin-dependent disorder") is investigated. The nonmagnetic disorder vs. interaction phase diagram is computed using Dynamical Mean-Field Theory in combination with the geometric average over disorder.

Disorder-Induced First Order Transition and Curie Temperature Lowering in Ferromagnatic Manganites [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review B, {\bf 73}, 214404 (2006), 2006
We study the effect that size disorder in the cations surrounding manganese ions has on the magnetic properties of manganites. This disorder is mimic with a proper distribution of spatially disordered Manganese energies. Both, the Curie temperature and the order of the transition are strongly affected by disorder.

Strong disorder renormalization group primer and the superfluid-insulator transition [PDF]

open access: yesComptes Rendus Physique, Vol. 14, Issue 8, 725-739 (2013), 2014
This brief review introduces the method and application of real-space renormalization group to strongly disordered quantum systems. The focus is on recent applications of the strong disorder renormalization group to the physics of disordered-boson systems and the superfluid-insulator transition in one dimension.

Disorder-enhanced delocalization and local-moment quenching in a disordered antiferromagnet [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. B vol 58, 8683 (1998), 1998
The interplay of disorder and spin-fluctuation effects in a disordered antiferromagnet is studied. In the weak-disorder regime (W \le U), while the energy gap decreases rapidly with disorder, the sublattice magnetization, including quantum corrections, is found to remain essentially unchanged in the strong correlation limit.

Risk of metabolic syndrome and its components in people with schizophrenia and related psychotic disorders, bipolar disorder and major depressive disorder: a systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesWorld Psychiatry, 2015
Metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its components are highly predictive of cardiovascular diseases. The primary aim of this systematic review and meta‐analysis was to assess the prevalence of MetS and its components in people with schizophrenia and related ...

Development and Validation of a New Substance Use Disorder Screening Test Based on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5)

open access: yesJournal of Health Science and Medical Research, 2023
Objective: The lack of a screening tool for substance use disorders is a significant problem for health care workers for patient care and referral.

Eye movement patterns correlate with overt emotional behaviours in rapid eye movement sleep

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Growing evidence suggests that sleep plays a key role in regulating emotions. Rapid eye movements (REMs) in REM sleep could be associated with dreams emotions, but supporting evidence is indirect.

Which Groups of Children Are at More Risk of Fatality during COVID-19 Pandemic? A Case-Control Study in Yazd, Iran

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology, 2023
Introduction. The study aims to investigate the characteristics, comorbidities, laboratory findings, and clinical manifestations of under 18-year-old patients who died with the diagnosis of COVID-19 and determination of the most prevalent risk factors ...

Intrinsically disordered proteins and their (disordered) proteomes in neurodegenerative disorders [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Aging Neuroscience, 2015
The recent years have witnessed a rise in the number of intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs), also known as hybrid proteins, which possess both structured domains and biologically important intrinsically disordered protein regions (IDPRs). These proteins challenge the “one sequence—one structure—one function” concept by demonstrating that the lack ...

Bipolar disorder [PDF]

open access: yesEvidence-Based Mental Health, 2003
Bipolar disorder, with mood swings between depression and mania, may affect up to 1.5% of adults, and increases the risk of suicide and disability. Most people improve over time, but two thirds may have residual dysfunction, and at least 40% may have recurrent episodes. We conducted a systematic review and aimed to answer the following clinical ...
