T HE SPLEEN is not fixed in the abdomen and may move about on its pedicle. Diseased conditions might first be recognized by unusual splenic displacement. Changes in splenic contour and size may result with splenic displacement. 1'2 Many extrasplenic factors may cause atypical positions or configurations. The displacement cardiograph (DCG) is a non-contacting electromagnetic instrument for the recording of heart movement. Its field penetrates deep into the body and is extremely sensitive thereby allowing the recording of myocardial movement from patients regardless of body shape or posture even by paramedical personnel.

Queering Displacement/The Displacement of Queers

So far, we have restricted attention to the calculation of stresses and to problems in which the boundary conditions are stated in terms of tractions or force resultants, but there are many problems in which displacements are also of interest. For example, we may wish to find the deflection of the rectangular beams considered in Chapter 5, or calculate

Displacement Economies: A Relational Approach to Displacement
2020Moving beyond operational approaches to displacement, Hammar unfolds a multidimensional, relational approach termed ‘displacement economies.’ This recognises the simultaneity and articulation of physical, social, economic, and political spaces, relations, systems, and practices—and their effects—within diverse displacement contexts.

The syntax of displacing and non-displacing predicates
2014This chapter presents formal analyses of the constructions of interest in this book: raising-to-subject, tough -movement, and unaccusative constructions. In each of these constructions the main clause subject is displaced with respect to its thematic position, and the main predicate is therefore a displacing predicate.
