Keratin: dissolution, extraction and biomedical application.

open access: yesBiomaterials Science, 2017
Keratinous materials such as wool, feathers and hooves are tough unique biological co-products that usually have high sulfur and protein contents. A high cystine content (7-13%) differentiates keratins from other structural proteins, such as collagen and

The epithelial barrier theory proposes a comprehensive explanation for the origins of allergic and other chronic noncommunicable diseases

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Exposure to common noxious agents (1), including allergens, pollutants, and micro‐nanoplastics, can cause epithelial barrier damage (2) in our body's protective linings. This may trigger an immune response to our microbiome (3). The epithelial barrier theory explains how this process can lead to chronic noncommunicable diseases (4) affecting organs ...

The Analysis of the Physicochemical Properties of Benzocaine Polymorphs

open access: yesMolecules, 2018
The study was a pioneering attempt to assess the influence of the structural polymorphism (forms I, II, III) of benzocaine on its solubility, apparent solubility, and chemical stability, which are vital parameters for preformulation and formulation work.

Dissolution of Cavities and Porous Media: a Multi-Scale View [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Dissolution of underground cavities or porous media involves many different scales that must be taken into account in modeling attempts. This paper presents a review of some of these problems.

MOCCA Survey Database I: Dissolution of tidally filling star clusters harbouring BH subsystems

open access: yes, 2019
We investigate the dissolution process for dynamically evolving star clusters embedded in an external tidal field by exploring the MOCCA Survey Database I, with focus on the presence and evolution of a stellar-mass black hole subsystem. We argue that the

Bubble dissolution in horizontal turbulent bubbly flow in domestic central heating system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In a domestic central heating system, the phenomenon of microbubble nucleation and detachment on the surface of a boiler heat exchanger finds its origins in the high surface temperature of the wall and consequential localised super saturation ...

Transcriptome‐wide analysis of circRNA and RBP profiles and their molecular relevance for GBM

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CircRNAs are differentially expressed in glioblastoma primary tumors and might serve as therapeutic targets and diagnostic markers. The investigation of circRNA and RNA‐binding proteins (RBPs) interactions shows that distinct RBPs play a role in circRNA biogenesis and function.

Targeting the MDM2‐MDM4 interaction interface reveals an otherwise therapeutically active wild‐type p53 in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigates an alternative approach to reactivating the oncosuppressor p53 in cancer. A short peptide targeting the association of the two p53 inhibitors, MDM2 and MDM4, induces an otherwise therapeutically active p53 with unique features that promote cell death and potentially reduce toxicity towards proliferating nontumor cells.
